October 1, 1999. My Mom woke up after suffering a stroke during the night before. My stepfather, Mike was present. He called for an ambulance immediately and when they arrived, he was told my Mom had suffered a stroke over three hours before so she was not expected to make a full recovery. After tests at the hospital, he was told she had suffered paralysis on her entire right side. She laid there for 21 days and did not move on either her right or left side and never opened her eyes. She was fed by tubes the entire time.
On the 21st day, I was visiting my Mom with a close family friend and was standing at the foot of her bed. My stepdad was sitting on my Mom's right side. All of a sudden, my Mom's eyes opened and she smiled the most beautiful smile and raised her right arm straight up towards the ceiling. She nodded and said "yes" and gave her full name as she was smiling and looking up. After a bit, while her arm was still raised up towards the ceiling, she spoke my name and my two brothers names. She then said " Scottsville, Kentucky" ( her birthplace) and then lowered her arm to her side and closed her eyes. We were all in a state of shock!
Three days later, I was sitting at the foot of her bed alone with her eating my lunch. All of a sudden, she opened her eyes again and smiled a warm peaceful smile, the most peaceful smile I had ever seen, and raised her LEFT arm up as if she was reaching for another hand. She did not say anything but she nodded as if she was saying " yes" then lowered her arm and closed her eyes. She still had that wonderful smile on her face. I watched her for any movement for about 3 to 4 minutes, then called for the nurses. They came in immediately and told me my precious, wonderful mom had just passed away.
When we told the nurses about what had just happened they told us this was impossible and there was no way my mom could have done this. This last wonderful gift from my mother to show us that God existed was the best gift she could've ever given.
