Daniel 9

Jeremiah's prophecy

Dan 9:1 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;
Dan 9:2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

Daniel understood by books, the word of God; the Law and the prophets. He studied diligently the scriptures.

2 Tim 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Pet 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Psa 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

The number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet,

Jer 25:11 And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
Jer 25:12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

(This is the country of Iraq.)

Jer 25:13 And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.

Jer 29:10 For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

Daniel would pray to God holding him to his word. The 70 years would be over in a few more years. There is no stronger prayer, than to remind God of his word and promises. If we pray in faith according to his promises, God must honor his word. In fact, he wants us to pray this way.

1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
1 John 5:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

In the prophecy of Isaiah, Cyrus was mentioned. Cyrus was the ruler of the Persians. Daniel saw that his rise to power was a sign of the rebuilding of Jerusalem. It was time to seek God's face as the prophetic events were coming about.

Isa 44:28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

Jesus, spoke of our observing the signs that show the end times are near.

Mark 13:29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
Mark 13:30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
Mark 13:31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

The word of God is our light, our Lord the truth of God, the Holy Spirit shall guide us into all truth. Daniel searched the scriptures and saw the literal 70 years were soon to come about. Time to go back to the holy land. It was time for prayer. We too have a holy dwelling place. It is time for us to pray too.

Rev 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Daniel Prays

Dan 9:3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

Daniel set his face unto the Lord God.

God has our answers. All we need comes from the hand of God, we must seek his face. If you want more from him, seek his face. If you have a question the Bible has no answer for, some decision, seek his face in prayer.

1 Pet 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

To seek by prayer and supplication, to speak to God and to ask God for something

Jesus prayed fervently.

Heb 5:7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
Heb 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

With fasting

Going without food while seeking God in prayer. The body is brought under subjection to the Spirit, so that the prayers will be more powerful. Denying the flesh that so easily gets in the way of serving God. Fasting is not to be for public show.

Mat 6:16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
Mat 6:18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

In sackcloth and ashes.

This was done in old times to show humility and lowliness, true repentance towards God. True repentance and humility are rare in this self centered generation. Remember Jonah reluctantly witnessing to the Ninevites?

Jonah 3:5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
Jonah 3:6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
Jonah 3:7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
Jonah 3:8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
Jonah 3:9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

Daniel was doing all he knew to reach God. The best prayers come from captives, the afflicted, the desperate and those who need a touch from God. They call out to God with humility, with all their heart, pressing in to seek his face and receive his answer. We do not pray only to tell him something, we also pray to hear from him. As young Samuel heard the voice of God.

1 Sam 3:10 And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

Do you want to pray as Daniel Prayed? Follow his way, seek God's face in prayer and supplication. Deprive the flesh and repent of wrong doing with a humble heart.

2 Chr 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Confession

Dan 9:4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;
Dan 9:5 We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:

Daniel in prayer, confesses his sins and the sins of his people. It was not their sin, but our sin. He begins by acknowledging that God is great, and dreadful; to be feared, awesome, to be honored, keeping his covenant promises and his mercy to them who love him and do his will. Our God keeps his promises, even if we are not faithful.

We have sinned; Daniel includes himself with his people. He does not make excuses, We have sinned, did evil and have rebelled against your laws. If we want forgiveness we must confess to God. If our sins are in private, we confess in private. If our sins are open before all, we need to confess before all, to remove the offenses.

Dan 9:6 Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

We have ignored the prophets who warned us to repent. We turned unto our own ways, we have sinned against God.

Prov 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

Daniel speaks from his heart. God is good and faithful, we have sinned and turned from God's way. Forgiveness starts with confession. When we are become God's children through faith in Jesus, still we must confess our sins so that our prayers will be heard and our fellowship restored.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Daniel wanted to hear from God, he began by praising God and confessing sins. The nation was being punished because they did not obey God; how about our nation? Revival comes when we pray and confess our sins and obey God.

Confusion

Dan 9:7 O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.

Confusion of faces, to those from the land of Israel, who God has allowed to be taken captive because of their sins. They had no time to obey God. They disregarded his laws and worshipped foreign gods, now they were of confusion. They knew not where they were going, what their future was, nor what if any hope they had to be again blessed by God. Satan brings confusion, it accompanies sin and rebellion, envy and strife. Stay in the mind of Christ and confusion goes.

James 3:16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Dan 9:8 O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.

Psa 71:1 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.

1 Cor 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Dan 9:9 To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him;
Dan 9:10 Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.

God had left his word for them. In 70 years the captivity would be over. Daniel saw the word of prophesy, this time is close and confusion turns to hope. The word of God is the mind of God. If we know the mind of God and receive him, our confusion goes from us. Daniel knew the nature of God is mercies, for he himself was protected when he had been thrown into the Lions den. Still he trusted God more than the fear of death. Daniel was seeking forgiveness for his people through prayer and the promises in God's word.

Psa 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psa 119:106 I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.
Psa 119:107 I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O LORD, according unto thy word.

Psa 119:50 This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.

God is faithful and he loves his servant Daniel as he loves his family who trust in him. There is no confusion when we trust in the Lord and obey him.

Blessed or Cursed

Dan 9:10 Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.
Dan 9:11 Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.

The people of Israel were in a covenant relationship to God, to keep all the laws. God had explained the covenant to them and they had agreed to it. God must keep his word.

Deu 28:1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
Deu 28:2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

Deu 28:15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:

Deu 28:49 The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;

Dan 9:12 And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem.
Dan 9:13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.
Dan 9:14 Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice.

Deu 29:1 These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.

Deu 30:1 And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee,
Deu 30:2 And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;
Deu 30:3 That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.
Deu 30:4 If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:
Deu 30:5 And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.
Deu 30:6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
Deu 30:7 And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee.
Deu 30:8 And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.
Deu 30:9 And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers:
Deu 30:10 If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.

God keeps his word. All those who carelessly speak of God and come against Israel and God's people shall receive the curses. Praise God for his son, the Lord Jesus Christ. He came to set us free from the curse of the law. He took our curses to the cross and we are free in him.

Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

He spoiled, ceased by force, has taken power over, principalities and powers. He has triumphed over Satan and his kingdom, they have no power over the spiritual children in Christ.

Those who have been redeemed by Jesus still must continue to obey him and trust in him. He has given us freedom and life, his grace covers us by the blood shed for our sins. In Christ Jesus we are free from the curse of the law and satan cannot control us with a curse. The truth shall set us free. That is a big thing, a very wonderful blessing of God. Praise Jesus!

Bless Jerusalem

Dan 9:15 And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

Daniel speaks of the mighty deliverance of God's people from the land of Egypt. He was known for his great deeds, all knew of the mighty power of God to deliver his people. Daniel confessed that all had sinned and done wickedly. He does not try to blame God or hide their sins.

Dan 9:16 O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.

Take your anger away from the city of Jerusalem, your holy mountain. We have brought shame upon ourselves.

Dan 9:17 Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.
Dan 9:18 O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies.
Dan 9:19 O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

Daniel prays for mercy on God's holy city and on his people. Shine upon thy desolate sanctuary once again, as in days past. Daniel had a good character, but he does not speak of himself as deserving mercy. He identifies with the sinful people.

Psa 80:3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
Psa 80:4 O LORD God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?
Psa 80:5 Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure. Psa 80:6 Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.
Psa 80:7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
Psa 80:8 Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.
Psa 80:9 Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.
Psa 80:10 The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.
Psa 80:11 She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.
Psa 80:12 Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?
Psa 80:13 The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.
Psa 80:14 Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;
Psa 80:15 And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.
Psa 80:16 It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
Psa 80:17 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.
Psa 80:18 So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.
Psa 80:19 Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Touched by an angel

Dan 9:20 And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;
Dan 9:21 Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.

The angel Gabriel, the great messenger of God touched Daniel. God used angels to deliver messages in the old testament. Now, since Jesus left, we have his Holy Spirit of truth to bring us God's understanding of his word.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

Let me warn those of you who believe in psychics that say they are in contact with the angel Gabriel or with other angels, to hear from the dead and to be given peace. This is false. Any angel contact through psychic channelers, would be with Satan's fallen angels.

Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

One Internet site has a list of arch angels who are contacted by psychics. This web site was given by a witch, who came into Christian chat seeking spiritual things. There is no discernment between the angels, psychics and miracles of God by those who have not been touched by Jesus and given the Holy Spirit of truth. I gave her the word, she is given the truth. God's Spirit will draw her to Jesus, or she will perish in her sins. We are channels of the Holy Spirit of God, giving out the word of life.

2 Cor 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Cor 4:1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2 Cor 4:2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
2 Cor 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
2 Cor 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
2 Cor 4:5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
2 Cor 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

After the Church is removed and the Holy Spirit within, and it is the end times, then the angel of God will come to the nations proclaiming the gospel message.

Rev 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
Rev 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

This is the message of the angel of God for the people.

Dan 9:22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.
Dan 9:23 At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to show thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.

Gabriel will show Daniel a vision of how God would remove the sins of his people and restore Jerusalem. A time would be given whereby this shall be accomplished. True restoration and forgiveness of sins was yet to come for Daniel and the Jews. For us, looking back we know forgiveness has come through Messiah Jesus.

Seventy Weeks

Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Seventy weeks, these are weeks of years, not of days. Seventy, seven year weeks, are determined upon thy people, upon the people of Israel and upon thy holy city, to finish the trangression, and make an end to sins. Only Jesus can forgive sins. Only Jesus brought reconciliation for iniquity, through his death on the cross. Jesus will bring in everlasting righteousness.

Isa 51:7 Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.
Isa 51:8 For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.
Isa 51:9 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days,...

Rom 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

To seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy; Jesus reigning as king during the Millemium kingdom on earth. All this was to occur in seventy weeks.

Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

The times are given as seven weeks of years, or 49 years this is the period of time for the rebuilding of Jerusalem, in troubled times. Probably this time occurred in the time of the rebuilding of the City recorded in Ezra and Nehemiah. Sixty two weeks of years or a total of 69 week years would or 483 years shall pass, this would bring us to the time of the coming of Jesus. Many have sought to make exact charts as to these periods of time. Let us simplify and come to a general agreement as to these times and events. I do not believe that anyone can exactly predict the things that are in God's time. We can look back and see that the first 69 years of weeks have come. There remains a seven year week. This will be the time of tribulation upon all Israel and then Messiah shall return.

The final week

Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

After these days are fulfilled, Messiah Jesus shall be cut off, crucified on the Roman cross, but not for himself. No, for us, and for our sins.

Isa 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

The people of the prince,the Romans would destroy Jerusalem and the temple. The sixty nine weeks will end with Messiah Jesus being cut off. It is understood by many that the final week of the prophecy will come after the time of the Gentiles, the church age has passed. For then God will again turn to Israel. The final dictator who will declare himself to be a prince of peace, a false messiah, will arise from the Roman empire, at the last days.

Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

The Roman prince shall make a covenant of peace with many, including Israel. This is the beginning of the final week of years. Israel will again be a nation and the temple will be rebuilt. There was a time called the time of the Gentiles. This period of time changed the redemption focus from the Jews, who rejected their Messiah, onto the non Jewish nations, the Gentiles.

Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

At some time, the Church will be caught up with the Lord.

1 Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1 Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
1 Th 4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
1 Th 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
1 Th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
1 Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

The prince from the Roman empire shall bring peace and make a covenant with Israel. After three and a half years he will set himself upon the throne of God as Messiah and demand to be worshipped. He shall cause the sacrifices to stop and will defile the temple in Jerusalem.

2 Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2 Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

2 Th 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

The removal of the Church and the indwelling Holy Spirit restrained sin, as the salt prevents corruption and the light overcomes the darkness.

2 Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
2 Th 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
2 Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2 Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2 Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Many are even now believing the lie and serving the works of darkness.

2 Th 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
2 Th 2:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Th 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
