The first day: In the beginning God
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
In the beginning of all creation, there was God, elohiym, the plural name for God. From the beginning the triune God is mentioned. We know Him as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He created and fashioned the heaven, (the sky) and the earth.
Isa 48:13 Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.
The heavens can refer to all that is above; the clouds and the atmosphere, the planets and the stars.
Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
The earth was without form and void of life. It was dark, light is required to see form. The surface was covered with water; no land masses or islands were formed.
Isa 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
The Holy Spirit of God moved across the waters of the created earth and seas.
Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
The Word spoke; let there be light: and there was light. God the Son spoke and it was so.
Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
The sun light had not yet been created. Perhaps the light was from God himself, his light, his presence and his truth.
Gen 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
He divided the light from the darkness, his light from the darkness, and he called the darkness night. The first day was created, the first day of creation.
The second day
Gen 1:6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
All was wet, the air and atmosphere were a blanket of water. This water was separated from the bodies of water. This was not like rain, for the first rain came at Noahs time. Probably a heavy mist.
Gen 1:7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
The firmament is just the air space dividing the waters.
Gen 1:8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
The heaven, the atmosphere and clouds and this was the second day of creation.
The third day
Gen 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
Gen 1:10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
The land appeared separated from the seas.
Gen 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
Plants were created, illuminated by the light that God provided. Each was according to it's own kind. They were created as mature seed producing plants. There could be variations, but each was according to its kind. Grass cannot be a tree. An apple is not mixed with an orange, they are separate kinds.
Rev 22:5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
Gen 1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
It takes time for plants to grow and produce fruit in the natural, but at creation it was instant. Remember Aaron's rod that budded and made almonds overnight?
Num 17:7 And Moses laid up the rods before the LORD in the tabernacle of witness.
Num 17:8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.
Gen 1:13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
The third day brought all kinds of plant life. All that God does is good.
I believe that all plants originally were for good, but after the fall of Adam, the ground was cursed and God brought forth briars and poisenous plants. Plants that were addictive like marijuana, tobacco, opium poppies, were the result of sin.
The fourth day
Gen 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
Gen 1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Gen 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
Lights, in the heavens: the stars and galaxies. There are millions of galaxies; they are beyond our measure.
Psa 147:4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.
The sun and the moon for day and night for dividing day and night. These would be faithful, as God is faithful, seasons: spring, summer, summer and fall. For days, for moon cycles, for months and years, they were established to run in a predictable orbit.
Eccl 1:5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
Gen 1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
Gen 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Scientists say the sun is 70% hydrogen and 28% helium. It is gas, so God lit the torch of the sun and the stars, and he keeps them burning by nuclear fusion. The moon is smaller and closer to the earth than the sun, but they appear the same size. On occasion the moon may travel in front of the sun causing an eclipse. The shapes of the moon are caused by the shadow cast by the earth as it eclipses the light from the sun.
The sun has always risen and set again, except for one day.
Josh 10:12 Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
Josh 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
Josh 10:14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.
With God on our side, all things are possible.
The fifth day
Gen 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
Gen 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
Fish and sea creatures, and water fowl and all birds were created together, they did not evolve from the sea. The waters have an abundant and plentiful variety of living creatures, from Giant sea creatures to minute organisms. Explorers are still finding new species of life in the depths of the ocean. Varieties that were thought extinct have been brought up in the nets of fishermen. The closer we examine the creation, the more we see the master designer in all things. The sea creatures and birds are created according to their own kind. There are canaries in a cage whistling tunes, the red winged blackbirds singing like glass wind chimes, and pelicans diving beak first from the sky, to feed its big scooped beak. All according to their kind, beautifully created by our Lord.
Gen 1:22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
Gen 1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
Let me say, that when watching nature film on TV, that it is best to turn off the narrator, for it is all about evolution. The world pretends that there is no God, and all came about by chance. There is no chance that they will escape the judgement of God. Science that started with facts has turned to theory and religion; worshipping the creation and not the creator.
1 Tim 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: 1 Tim 6:21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith....
Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
The sixth day
Gen 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
God Adam the job of naming the animals; this may have taken many days. Man is not so fast as God, who spoke all into being.
Gen 1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
God created the animals next, every living creature after his kind, cattle, domestic animals and creeping things, lizards and snakes, the beasts, the jungle animals again, after his own kind. God said this often, so evolution has no truth to stand on. God's word is truth.
Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
God said, Let us, plural for God, make man in our image, after our likeness:
God is a Spirit, we must be made spiritually in the image of God.
John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Man was created with a soul and a spirit from God. He was created for fellowship with God, he thinks and he feels and he is emotional. He has moral judgement, from his conscience. He is creative and can fashion things from his mind. He was created to love God and his fellow man. He was created with language and reason
Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
God blessed, and said, be fruitful and multiply. There was no incest prohibition, because all was pure and blessed of God. Sin brought corruption to humans and laws were given to not breed with close relatives. Some question this, that is why I am jumping ahead.
Man was given dominion over all the life on earth. He was created to be master over all animals and fish and over every living thing on earth. This authority was given to him by God. To remain in authority he must serve God and make him Lord. Later we will see that satan caused man to sin, so mankind became servants of sin, they had a sin nature, instead of the nature of God. The god of sin is the devil, so satan stole dominion away from man. Because man fell, animals fear men, for they are not peaceful.
Rom 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Rom 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
Rom 8:20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
Rom 8:21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
Rom 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
Rom 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Jesus restored dominion to those who serve him. As a man, he lived a perfect life and gave himself to restore us to God and the authority we had as children of God.
Gen 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Apparently man was created as a vegetarian.
Gen 1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
Every beast of the earth, lions tigers and bears incuded, were created to eat vegetation. It was the fall of Adam and eve and the resulting curse that caused man and beast to kill flesh and eat. blood was required for sin. Many animals were given as sin offerings and the flesh eaten.
Gen 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Six days were required to create the heavens and the earth and all life found therein. This was an over view of the creation. Chapter two will get into details.
