Hebrews 10

The law, a shadow

Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
Heb 10:2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
Heb 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
Heb 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

The law, required blood for sins.

Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Yet, the law could not change the sin nature of the person. For within ourselves, we are unable to keep the laws.

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Many think that by doing good works, that God will be satisfied, this does not satisfy a holy and just God, for no sin is allowed into heaven. We must have our sins removed here, for there is no purgatory, no other way for our sins to be removed but through Jesus, the Lamb of God.

One man spoke that he had a higher spiritual truth. He walked in love and we are not to wait on Christ, but to do good unto all men. I asked him if Jesus Christ was his Lord and savior? No, I follow God and love, he replied. Then your sins remain. Without remission of sins through Jesus Christ, what other high sounding words you choose to believe will not save you. He refused to receive Jesus, or to consider him as important. God IS love, but he is also truth. If we ignore his word and his way of forgiveness, then his perfect justice has not been fulfilled. In Christ Jesus, justice was fulfilled. In him is forgiveness and grace, any other way, is the law of works, traditions or a deceiving spirit. Many are totally convinced they have a better way, a better truth, but shall be rejected by a holy and just God. He who provided his only Son, at great cost: suffering, anguish, pain, shame, cursing, taking upon himself our sins and receiving a just punishment, giving his life blood in our place. This is God's love for you. We do not have God's love without receiving Christ, who made it possible. The shadow leads to the cross. Darkness ends at the cross, a new dawn, resurrection has come and new life for all who believe in the name of Jesus. I bow before a holy and just God.

Right hand of God

Heb 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
Heb 10:6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
Heb 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

Psa 40:6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
Psa 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
Psa 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

Jesus came with a heart that wanted to obey the father. We are to have the heart of Christ and the mind of Christ. We receive this in the new man after we receive Jesus and have the Holy Spirit within us.

Heb 10:8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
Heb 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Christ Jesus, took away the first sacrificial system of animals under the old covenant law and he has replaced them with a better sacrifice for all times. The better sacrifice and the perfect sacrifice of his own body and blood; which is the new covenant.

Heb 10:11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

The offerings could not keep sin away, it would return because outward ceremonies are not the same as God changing our hearts. The blood of Jesus cleanses away sin and Jesus gives us a new heart and a new spirit. The law can only cover sin or reveal it.

Heb 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
Heb 10:13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

This man Jesus has finished his work on the cross. He is at the right hand of God. This sacrifice continues to cleanse away sin. His light continues to shine in those who trust in him. The power of the devil is over, because by faith we know Jesus has overcome the devil. His time is short, our time is eternal with God, the devil spends eternity in the lake of fire. Who will you follow? Oh, such a foolish question for those of truth, we shall eternally follow Jesus, our master, savior and high priest.

Boldly enter in

Heb 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Those who are set aside unto God, through Jesus are made perfect in God's eyes, by the one time offering of Jesus Christ for our sins.

Heb 10:15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
Heb 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
Heb 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

The Holy Sprit within the believer is how we have new hearts and minds with God's laws written on them. Many pretend to be the Lord's children but have foolish hearts of sin and gossip. Where is the evidence of the new man? If we are perfect we should follow God's spirit and read his word.

Heb 10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

We may still sin, but we need not live in sin, for in God's eye's we are without sin, if we are in his Son.

Heb 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

It is no longer one high priest who may enter the holy of holies for us once a year, but we, the brethren may enter into his presence ourselves, at anytime without a priest, because of the blood of Jesus. Think of that? Still, some religions keep the people away from God, placing a priest between them and God, keeping truth and personal holiness separate. This is not God's word.

Heb 10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

The veil was torn, the flesh of Jesus, so that we may enter into God's presence.

Heb 10:21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
Heb 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

Our high priest is with us in heavenly places. When we enter the throne room of God for prayer and satan accuses us, our high priest is there inviting us into his presence through the cleansing which is eternally ours. Our hearts, sprinkled with his blood, and our bodies washed with pure water of his word.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

So very important is faith. We live by faith in God, faith in his word and his promises. If we know what is good and true, then we will not be fooled by the devil's lies and his many false ways. Hold fast to God's promises, and when we enter the throne room in prayer, the promises we bring with us. We receive them when we know of them and approach the Father with his own word. This will please him, our faith pleases our God who loves us.

Assembling together

Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

To provoke, to incite unto love and good works. We all perhaps, have seen a Christian who was an encourager. These are precious brothers and sisters who incite us unto love and good works. What a different world this would be if everyone would do this.

Let us consider one another. This is the golden rule taught in the classrooms of early Christian America, an era now past.

Mat 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

to provoke unto love and to good works:

The world tries to put down one another, so that they will look good. The Christian is to build up each the other, to express God's love and to encourage them to do good works. What happens when this is missing? There is envy and tearing down.

1 Cor 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

We are to be different, not to be workers of strife as if of the world. We are to edify one another in love.

Rom 14:19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

1 Th 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

We are not to be "Lone Ranger" Christians, staying apart from the body of Christ. Everyone should be a part of a local church. This was a problem even in Paul's time, that people would not come together. There is power in unity. We are to exhort one another, especially in the end times. Things will get hard, we need one another. The devil is a divider and an accuser. We should come together in one Spirit of peace with love and encouragement. This is a command of God. If your church is full of envy and strife, be a peacemaker, or find a new church. Be sure that you are not the cause of strife. Love one another, preferring one another.

Eph 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

No more sacrifice for sins

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

These are those who despise God and authority, they have heard the word but they mock it. Without Jesus they have no hope.

Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Jude describes these men.

Jude 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Heb 10:28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Jude 1:8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

Jude 1:12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
Jude 1:13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

Heb 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
Heb 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Prov 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Prov 14:8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.
Prov 14:9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

We dare not be as these who count the sacrifice of Christ as of no importance. Without Jesus we are lost in our sins. Pay attention to your salvation. Let go of your control and give all to God, through his son, Jesus the savior.

Endure

Heb 10:32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;
Heb 10:33 Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.

Paul suffered many things as he witnessed the gospel message, mostly from his own people who rejected his message as they had also rejected Jesus.

2 Cor 11:24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
2 Cor 11:25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;
2 Cor 11:26 In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
2 Cor 11:27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
2 Cor 11:28 Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.

Heb 10:34 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

They esteemed Paul and cared for him and they themselves suffered loss from evil men without wavering in their faith towards Jesus. A better place awaits us, this is not our home, we belong to the Lord.

Heb 10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.
Heb 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Waiting is always hard, but we know what we are waiting for. We have great promises of the hope to come. We continue to do the will of God, for he is our rewarder.

2 Tim 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
2 Tim 1:13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
2 Tim 1:14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

Heb 10:37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

2 Pet 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
2 Pet 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

Heb 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

We must keep the faith. Jesus was often speaking of the lack of faith in his twelve disciples. We are to be a people of faith.

Mat 8:26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

All power is given unto Jesus, we can trust him for all of our needs.

Heb 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

How can we draw back from such great promises? Our Lord has spoken and it shall come to pass. Who are those who will perish? Here is a list of those who are not of faith, those who will perish in unbelief.

Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

We are not with this bunch, because we have faith in the Lord and love the truth.
