Daylight Savior
John 9:1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
Jesus did not stay in the temple, he moved around among the people. When Jesus passes by there is healing and deliverance.
John 9:2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
John 9:3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
It was believed that infirmities were caused by someones sin; the person afflicted or his parents. Jesus said he was blind so that the works of God might be shown in him.
We should not be looking for reasons when another is afflicted. Often this is pride on our part and a judgmental attitude. It might have been you so afflicted. Let us hear what Jesus said about tragedies happening to men.
Luke 13:1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
Luke 13:2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Luke 13:4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
Luke 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Repent from sins and receive Jesus.
Jesus answers in like manner regarding the sickness of Lazarus.
John 11:3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
John 11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
He brought Lazarus back from death, to bring glory to God.
John 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Jesus brought the day, the time of good works. Even on the cross he did the works of God forgiving sins. A time will come to those who have not trusted in Jesus that it will be too late for good works, they will not be saved. Their life will be required of them.
John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Jesus, the daylight savior. He is the light and the truth of the world. We are not that light, but through Jesus we receive his light. The light of his word and his Spirit. When we think we are something, we forget that it is Christ Jesus within, our hope of glory. He dwells within by His Spirit. When the church is removed, much of the Spirits influence will be gone. The teaching of the word of truth will be given to the 144,000 Jewish witnesses. Many will be martyred in these days of darkness.
Rev 7:3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.
Rev 7:4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.
We must be bold witnesses through the power of God while we are here. We must not let the darkness silence the moving of God's Spirit and the witness of Jesus.
John 9:6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
John 9:7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
Jesus healed in many different ways. Here he used his spittle and made clay. Jesus was with God creating the world, before coming into Jesus.
Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
When we picture Jesus as the son of man, it is difficult to see him as creator. But, when we see Jesus as son of God, who is Spirit, then we see him as Lord, the word became flesh.
Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power,
This is Jesus before coming in the flesh. Then he came to remove our sins and to be our savior, in Jesus the son of man.
when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
John 9:8 The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
John 9:9 Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
The healing is witnessed to family and friends first. The evidence is before them, they must see and believe or disbelieve.
When Jesus healed the demon posessed man, the man wanted to stay with Jesus. Jesus told him to be a witness where others could see his testimony.
Luke 8:38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
Luke 8:39 Return to thine own house, and show how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
John 9:10 Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
John 9:11 He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
He obeyed Jesus' command and washed his eyes in the pool. Now he sees and gives witness of Jesus. If we are spiritually blind we cannot give witness to Jesus.
Our witness begins at home and with those who know us, before we go out into all the world. If our families do not hear us, will strangers hear? That is up to God, he does the saving, we are to be His obedient servants. Do not be stopped if your family does not respond at first. Jesus' earthly family did not believe in him until his resurrection. What do we need to die and come back too? No, we are not Jesus. He gives us a time here on earth, let us make good use of that time.
Blind
John 9:12 Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.
His neighbors asked where the man who healed him was. The blind man only knew his name, Jesus, and his gentle voice. He was blind before Jesus, and needy. Now he could see, what a rich reward he had received. Sometimes people think they are well off if they have health insurance, and they trust in this. It may be good, but our trust should be in God and Jesus who has compassion on all who come to him, who healed all of their diseases.
Mat 8:16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
John 9:13 They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
John 9:14 And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
John 9:15 Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
The proof was before them. A blind man made to see.
John 9:16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
Religious talk, about breaking the Sabbath, they were not concerned for the healed man and certainly were not in touch with God. His son was in their midst and they were blind. How can a sinner do miracles? There was division; sometimes division is needed, sometimes it is only arrogant pride. Some in the name of religion only see things in their narrow viewpoint, this is also the way of some of our church denominations.
1 Cor 1:13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
John 9:17 They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
The blind man did not know who Jesus was. But he told him if he washed his eyes in the pool that he would see. This prophecy came true. Yes, Jesus the Son of God is many things, including prophet, healer, Messiah.
John 9:18 But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
They could not believe what was before them, because it did not fit their traditions.
John 3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
John 9:19 And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
I suppose if all agreed that the man was blind, that all would have been well. But, what of the witness of the man who can see? The law said by two witnesses a thing is confirmed. Would the law be blind to the truth? Jesus warned these law men earlier, that they needed righteous judgment.
John 7:23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
John 9:20 His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
John 9:21 But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
They testified that he was their son, but did not want to be thrown out of the temple for believing in the one who healed him.
John 9:22 These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
John 9:23 Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
John 9:24 Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
Agree with us, or we will throw you out of the synagogue!
John 9:25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
The blind man does not fear his accusers. He gives a clear testimony of what happened. Still, the Pharisees must make him conform to their beliefs. How often have we heard, people limit God, according to history and especially traditions and beliefs. They back into a corner and verbally abuse all who are not as they are. We better not get in a corner because of our own lack of understanding. To have knowledge of a particular denomination or a cult, is not the wisdom of God. Search the scriptures without the prejudices of others. God may be doing a new thing in these last days. If we are in His Spirit we will not be condemning another with a religious spirit.
John 9:26 Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
John 9:27 He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again?
How true, they did not want to hear the truth say it again in a way that will agree with our viewpoint. He was not going along with their hypocrisy, his words were well chosen and with courage:
will ye also be his disciples?
John 9:28 Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.
John 9:29 We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.
They thought they knew all about God, and missed His Son. We must be careful not to limit God to our own understanding and ideas.
John 9:30 The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
John 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
John 9:32 Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
This is the problem with religious people, they put God into the framework of what they have accepted in the past and leave no room for him to move in the now. Our Lord is creative, he rarely does things as we anticipate. We trust in him and see what he will do.
John 9:33 If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
The Holy Ghost is already using this once blind man to witness the truth.
John 9:34 They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
He was prejudged, they were predjudiced. He was made to see, now would he behave as a blind man? We can examine our own hearts, in the area of our own predjudices, do we see truth or through eyes that have prejudged another?
Sometimes when we have the light, those we share with may not receive our light. They only know their own view of things. Our light may seem as darkness to them, or they may be threatened by you. The world loves it's own, as do the religious ones. We are to know the truth and walk in it by God's Spirit. The blind man trusted God, but was rejected by man's religious ideas. If this has happened to you, take heart and see the moving of God.
John 9:35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
John 9:36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
John 9:37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
Jesus did not reveal to others that he was the Son of God, unless he knew their hearts were needy and ready to receive him. He did the same for the woman at the well, a Samaritan. His own people mostly rejected him and trusted in the religious authority of the Pharisees. Jesus revealed his glory to the blind man in word and in healing.
John 9:38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
Immediately he worshipped Jesus. His heart was not blinded with pride and religious rules.
John 9:39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
We are to have righteous judgment, knowing the truth, not religious traditions.
John 9:40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
John 9:41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
They said that they saw truth and were in darkness. So their sins remained.
Mat 15:13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
Mat 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Jesus overcame religious traditions, rules and ordinances that were against us. He has made us free in himself.
Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Col 2:18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
Col 2:19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
Col 2:20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
Col 2:21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
Col 2:22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
Col 2:23 Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
Col 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Col 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Col 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Col 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
