Lord of the sabbath
Luke 6:1 And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.
It was the second sabbath after the sabbath that Jesus and his disciples took grain to eat in a field. It was not unlawful to glean the field and eat the corn (grain), but the Jewish traditions were violated. This was said to be working on the sabbath. This was a necessary confrontation between Jesus the Son of God who spoke laws into being and the Pharisees who added to these laws.
Luke 6:2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?
Luke 6:3 And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungered, and they which were with him;
Luke 6:4 How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the showbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?
Jesus always speaks from the scriptures or from the word of God given to him. Their beloved king David had eaten sacred bread when he was hungry and there was nothing to eat.
1 Sam 21:6 So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the showbread, that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.
Luke 6:5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
As the new wine could not be placed in old wineskins, illustrating a new covenant replacing the old. Jesus speaks that he is Lord of the sabbath and broke no laws.
He is not going along with their traditions and he could even change the sabbath day, if he chose to do so. Many churches consider Sunday the sabbath day with the new covenant. Jesus is Lord of every day and he is our rest. Jesus was risen on a Sunday and the collections were taken on Sunday for helping the needy churches.
Orthodox Jews still keep the Friday night to Saturday night sabbath, but most new testament churches meet on Sunday. Another verse used for this is in Colossians:
Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
The sabbath day is a holyday (holiday) set aside as a day of rest and worship. In Christ we rest and we are not to work to receive our salvation. It is through faith we receive his grace , without works. (Eph 2:8-9) If you wish to keep the Jewish sabbath, do so. In Christ Jesus you are free, not under bondage. Serve him with a clear conscience.
Sabbath works
Luke 6:6 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
Luke 6:7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.
What spirit were these of?
Luke 6:8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.
Luke 6:9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
Good question, but they were about religious rules, not righteous judgment.
Mat 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Mat 23:24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
Luke 6:10 And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
Wow, a miracle healing on the sabbath. This should have brought praise and glory to God.
Luke 6:11 And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.
Instead of praise, they were filled with anger. They had hearts of envy and strife. Who was leading these spiritual leaders? Who were they serving?
John 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
John 8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
John 8:45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
Three sabbaths passed with Jesus doing things contrary to Jewish rules, but in accordance to his word. Jesus did good works and yet was accused by them. Listen now, if we must do evil to be accepted, do not go along with it. If religion is only bondage to rules of men, seek the will of God and remove yourself from this. Find a place to worship in Spirit and in truth, a place where Jesus is allowed to do his miracles. A place of freedom to do the good will of the Father.
Mountain top prayer
Luke 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
A mountain to pray, a wilderness was a favorite place for Jesus to meet with God His Father. In time of trials of running from those who pursue, go to the mountain for prayer, alone above it all, only the stars above.
Elijah when running from Jezebel was told to go to the mountain to hear the voice of God.
1 Ki 19:11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:
1 Ki 19:12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
1 Ki 19:13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
A pitiful sight, Elijah depressed, low in spirit walks to the front of the cave with his coat over his head. What are you doing in the cave Elijah? I think we all have had times of feeling down, depressed, out of sorts. This often occurs after a great victory. Go to the mountain top and pray, listen, speak to God and come away refreshed and strengthened. You may be under a spiritual attack, so pray in the Spirit, seek refreshing on the mountain top where God will meet you. If no mountain, find another place to be alone with him in prayer.
The twelve
Luke 6:13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
Luke 6:14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
Simon and Andrew were fishermen and brothers. Andrew brought Simon to Jesus. Simon Peter wrote two epistles. He was the first apostle to call Jesus, the Christ. James and John, the sons of Zebedee were also fisherman. Jesus nicknamed them the sons of thunder. John referred to himself as the disciple whom Jesus loved. John wrote the book of John, three epistles and Revelation. Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip brought Nathaniel who said, can any good thing come out of Nazareth, Jesus was from Nazareth. Jesus saw Nathaniel and gave him a complement. him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! Nathaniel was not of the twelve.
Luke 6:15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,
Matthew or Levi, was a publican, a tax collector. He wrote the gospel of Matthew. Thomas is also known as doubting Thomas. He would not believe that Jesus had risen from the dead. "Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe." Jesus came to Thomas and he was convinced saying: My Lord and my God. James the son of Alphaeus, was called James the lesser. Little is known of him. Simon the zealot, hated the Roman's rule.
Luke 6:16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.
I found one mention of Judas, not Iscariot.
John 14:22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. Judas Iscariot is known as the one who betrayed Christ Jesus. He held the coin purse and loved money more than the Lord. He betrayed the Lord for thirty pieces of silver.
Disciples learn from a master teacher. Apostles were as ambassadors to the one they served. We are to be disciples and witnesses in the world. Lord God, help us to be faithful to you and not to place anything else in the way of serving you.
Healed them all
Luke 6:17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;
Refreshed by all night prayer, Jesus is greeted with a multitude seeking healing.
Luke 6:18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
They had unclean spirits. We call this by high sounding psychology and medical names today. Some are quite proud of their diagnosis: Jesus healed by casting out unclean spirits.
Luke 6:19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.
Goodness went out to all who touched him, the bad had to leave.
Sermon on the mount
Luke 6:20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
He wasn't saying that being poor, with no money places you into the kingdom of God. He was speaking in spiritual words. Matthew records these words:
Mat 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The poor are needy, if the spirit is poor, it can only be enriched by God's spirit. We cannot please God by ourselves. He must come to us and be our strength. Not only were we poor in spirit, but we were spiritually dead. Jesus came and we received new life in HIS spirit.
Psa 34:6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
Psa 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
Psa 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Luke 6:21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
We are to hunger for righteousness, the word and salvation of the Lord. The new life in Christ Jesus brings Spiritual prosperity, spiritual food and peace, joy and the fruit of the Spirit.
Isa 6:5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
No sin may come into God's presence. This is why the LORD God sent his son, Jesus, to take away our sins. Isaiah, in Gods prophetic voice describes the messiah and his work.
Isa 61:1 The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
Isa 61:2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
Isa 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
We are made perfect in Christ Jesus, by His Spirit.
For the Son of man's sake
Luke 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
Luke 6:23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
How can you be blessed when these things happen? In an Internet chat room, many came in to disrupt the room, to mock Jesus, and our faith. After moving to another room for Bible study, one who was with us said, they are saying bad things about you, should you not do something? Perhaps change your profile that says, you will show them a better way? No, they were mocking Jesus and because we are serving him, they mock us. I am not the one to change my beliefs. They must change or perish. We want to bring all to Jesus, yet some hate us and do evil things because of Jesus. Count it all joy!
Mat 15:10 And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
Mat 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
Mat 15:12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
Mat 15:13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
Mat 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
The important thing is that we not offend Christ.
Mat 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Mat 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
Mat 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Rom 9:33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
2 Cor 6:3 Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed:
2 Cor 6:4 But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,
2 Cor 6:5 In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;
2 Cor 6:6 By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,
2 Cor 6:7 By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,
2 Cor 6:8 By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;
2 Cor 6:9 As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;
2 Cor 6:10 As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.
There is much to say on this subject. In summary, if we are like Jesus, we will be persecuted, we try not to offend because of our failings, but must always show the fruit of the Spirit and speak his word in grace and in truth. We are to honor Christ, whom they dishonor.
Woe
Luke 6:24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.
If you are rich in the treasures of this world AND your trust is in these riches, woe unto you. Jesus spoke many times of the spiritual problems associated with the riches of this world. He wants us to be rich in the Spirit, seeking him and trusting in him.
Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
Our nakedness before God, who sees our heart and our life.
Heb 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Luke 6:25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.
Luke 6:26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
Woe to those who trust in the world's pleasures and seek the admiration of this world. The world is in rebellion and loves those who are like them.
John 7:6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
John 7:7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
John 15:20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
If we claim to be Christians and party with the world and are like the world. If we are admired for our wealth and worldly things. How can we claim to be born again? Where is the evidence of a new life? Wealth is not godliness, nor is poverty, but godliness is a heart rich towards God. If we love the Lord we will show it by our witness and our way of life.
1 Tim 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
1 Tim 6:18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
1 Tim 6:19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
Love your enemies
Luke 6:27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
Luke 6:28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
The way of Jesus Christ is to love through the Holy Spirit. The nature of God is to love, so we are to give love as God's love is, unconditional through Jesus Christ. Apart from Jesus, we cannot love, especially as God requires us to love. We are never to curse another. The forgiveness we have received allows us to be people who bless and are blessed. We give out love because we received it, without earning it. We are channels of God's love and blessings, through Jesus Christ.
Luke 6:29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.
Luke 6:30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.
We should not be easily offended, nor should we be easily hurt. God is in control, if he has blessed you with something and another takes it, give him more.
Rom 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Rom 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
Rom 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Vengeance belongs to God.
Forgive, be at peace and do not let another upset you. God's Spirit dwells in you. Don't be a whiner.
1 Cor 13:4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
1 Cor 13:5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
1 Cor 13:6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
1 Cor 13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
The Golden Rule
Luke 6:31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
This used to be taught in classrooms throughout our country. Some, slyly remark, do unto others before they do unto you. This is not about doing evil, but about doing good.
Rom 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
Luke 6:32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
Luke 6:33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.
Luke 6:34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
Luke 6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
A different way of thinking, as a child of God. We are to be as Jesus, not to only do good because good is done to us. But to love and do good because this is the nature of God.
Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Mat 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Luke 6:36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
Yes, it takes the mercy of God to give to others when they do you wrong. We can only do this because he said we should and has given us power to do his will. We have a relationship with the Father.
John 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Judge not and give
Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
Judge not, and ye shall not be judged. Do not question another's motives or judge them with a condemning attitude. We are not to condemn, to give wrath or a final judgment. Jesus is showing us his attitude, the mind of God. He is long suffering not willing that any should perish. Forgive and you shall be forgiven. But, what if we do not forgive? First, we must remember where we came from. We were once lost and in sin. We came to Jesus and he was merciful to us. It was not that we earned our forgiveness it was freely given. What we receive we are to freely give.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
What we receive is because of God's favor to us. This is sometimes hard to see, we work hard and earn a little money and we are asked to give. Someone takes something from us and we give him more? This certainly is not the worlds thinking. That's right, it is God's thinking. He said whatever we give we will be given back in greater measure. Be careful that when you give it is not with a selfish attitude to receive back. Do not give to be seen and praised by others, for that will be your reward.
Mat 6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
Mat 6:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
Forgive others, even when they are guilty, God will reward you with peace. Give in secret with a cheerful heart and God will reward you openly. How many who are unforgiving and rich in the world have peace and joy? Your peace and joy with contentment are great treasures from God for you. Thank you Jesus.
The beam
Luke 6:39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?
Be careful who you follow. Is the person who leads you of truth? What will the result be if you follow a spiritually blind person? Both will fall into the ditch or the grave.
Luke 6:40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
A perfect disciple or student, can only be like his teacher. To be like Jesus is our desire. Suppose you were in a college religion class taught by an atheist. Would getting an "A" be of much worth? Yet many Christians go to ungodly colleges and some lose their faith.
Luke 6:41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Luke 6:42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.
It is easier to see another's fault, than our own. We are to warn others if they are headed down the wrong path. An unrepentant person will not listen to your advice.
Gal 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
Fruit
Luke 6:43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Every tree brings forth fruit after its kind. An orange tree makes oranges, a mock orange has orange looking blossoms, but no fruit. A persimmon picked too soon makes you pucker, with a bad taste. Each after it's kind.
Luke 6:44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
We do not look for fruit from the wrong kind of trees. Nor should we expect truth from a liar.
Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
The heart? Is it the heart of God? A heart sanctified and holy? The heart of Jesus, the dwelling place of his Spirit? Or is the heart evil, full of the fruit of the old man and the devil?
Just as Jesus came from His father and was of a like mind. So we are of His Spirit, if we have the mind of Christ. You shall know a man by his fruit. The fruit of his lips; words to build or to destroy. The fruit of his life, good works or bad. Is God master of his life or self? You know them by their fruit.
Luke 16:10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
Luke 16:11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
Luke 16:12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?
Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Luke 16:14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.
Luke 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
Spiritual Building
Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
A good point. Why claim Jesus as Lord and master and follow your own way? These are more than words in a book. Jesus wants us to make him Lord of all of our life. Our thoughts and actions must submit to his will.
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
The world and the devil are not easy on us, but Jesus cares, he lifts us up and helps with our load.
Luke 6:47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will show you to whom he is like:
Luke 6:48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
Luke 6:49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
Is your foundation on Jesus the rock, the chief cornerstone of God's Spiritual building? He is our foundation, built upon by the apostles and prophets. Be careful we must be with our lives, for we are living stones, part of this building the world sees as the church.
1 Pet 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
We are saints and priests, our lives as sacrifices through praise, our words and our actions. This is our reasonable duty. (Rom 12:1-2)
