Matthew 7

Do not judge

Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

But, you don't understand how much I am hurt? Was not Jesus hurt for us? All are created in His image; we are not to judge before the time. So much is misunderstanding powered by the devil, hurled at an insecure place in our heart. We do not know another's heart; we don't even know our own heart, not as well as our Lord does. Even Jesus, who will judge all by His word at the end, did not judge the bad spirits. He rebuked them, but even they are free until the final judgment..

Mat 8:29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

Mat 7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Gal 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Jesus has forgiven us much. We are to forgive others as well, and yes we are to forgive, or receive God's forgiveness for ourselves. Often, we judge another for saying what the devil has been bothering us with in our heart. Words can destroy, oh, that we would only bless and speak words of blessings.

Mat 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Mat 7:4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Mat 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

We see the tiny speck in another's eye, perhaps a small fault. Do we not remember that we have a speck in our eye? A speck can appear as a log if it is in our eye. We are too concerned about another's speck, or offense and are blinded by our own.

Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Eph 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Pearls before swine

Mat 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

The Jews called Gentiles dogs. Even Jesus referred to this in one of his encounters with a Gentile woman. The Gentiles at this time were separated from God's promises, and were not the people of God's covenant.

Mat 15:26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and cast it to dogs.

The bread of life, Jesus, the word and the promises of God, did not apply to the Gentiles at this time. But through the faith of the Gentile woman, power was released from God for healing. Faith is required to receive the promises of God. A dog is an unbelieving Gentile. Can a Jew who is an unbeliever be called a dog? No, because the nation of Israel is special to God, called as a people, his son. Does this mean that all Jews, even unbelieving Jews will inherit eternal life? No, only those who trust in Messiah Jesus.

...neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

A swine is an unclean animal to the Jews. Anyone who rejects God and the word of God, is as a swine trampling the pearls of God's wisdom under foot.

Psa 14:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

We are to witness to all people. All may come to Jesus in this age of grace. Those who actively oppose the message of life, repeatedly, are as dogs and swine, being carnal and unclean, refusing the things of God.

These will be the first to remind you, that you are not to judge. They have judged themselves unworthy. This applies also to the unbelieving Jews.

Acts 13:46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

Dogs and swine hate the message of grace. The Jew or Gentile who receives the gospel message, shall be the children of God.

Gal 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Ask, Seek, Knock

Mat 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

Ask with your lips and heart, seek actively and you shall find, knock in faith and it will be opened unto you. When we come to God, first we ask questions. Is he a loving God? How can I be forgiven of sins? Secondly, we seek him, where is he? Is Jesus God? We come to Jesus seeking forgiveness and finally we knock or he knocks on our heart and we let him in and he let's us in to His kingdom.

Mat 7:8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Ask, yes the Lord knows what we need before we ask, but, he wants us to ask. Why ignore him? He has brought you ought of bondage into his glorious light. He wants to have fellowship with you. "Well, I don't want to bother him," oh? He doesn’t love you? Why keep the relationship private? Ask, and you will receive. Even a dad wants to hear from those he loves. Do you need money? Ask the Lord. Are you in sin? Confess to the Lord, Are you blessed? Bless the Lord.

Seek, the answer in the path he directs you in. He has given you his Spirit of truth to guide you. Obey the Spirit who will know the mind of Christ. If you are in open sin, don't ask a friend if you are sinning, read God's word and follow the conviction of the Holy Spirit. If you are unsure about something, Ask and follow the unction, the impression of God's Spirit. He will never tell you to sin. He will lead you in paths of righteousness.

Psa 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Psa 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Knock, and what you were seeking will be opened to you.

Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Rev 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Psa 138:6 Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.

1 Sam 2:9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

Don't let pride separate you from your Father God. Jesus is with him, openly seeking your best interests.

Psa 34:3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
Psa 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
Psa 34:5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.
Psa 34:6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
Psa 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
Psa 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Psa 34:9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

Golden rule

Mat 7:9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

My earthly father was a good father. He provided for our needs. Some fathers would not even provide the basic needs, having given themselves completely to their own desires. Jesus was talking to the Jews who were familiar with and kept the laws given to them by God. What kind of parent would not love and cherish their children, and meet their basic needs? Selfish parents do not care. This is the "self" generation.

Mat 7:10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

Only a father given over to satan would do this. Most fathers would do the right thing.

Mat 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

We being of the fallen sin nature, give good gifts to our children, how much more will our heavenly father bless us? We only need to ask.

Mat 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

This is the "golden rule." Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you. This was taught in almost every classroom in America, before our schools rejected the Christian values. If America again would teach this to every student, it would help bring back Gods way to our children. Jesus was a giver; he gave of himself meeting the needs of others. He even gave his life for others.

Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Ask of God, he loves to give every good gift to us. He gave his best for us. We should give him our best, by trusting and obeying him. We are no longer sinners, but children of God. If we sin, it is not our nature, and if we ask...he will forgive us.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The Narrow Gate

Mat 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Mat 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

The narrow way to God and eternal life is through the gate, through the Lord Jesus Christ. It surprises me that even some Christians witness that there are many ways to God and life. Jesus is the door to life.

John 10:1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

Any other way, is the way of the thief and we know that satan is the thief. What about other faiths? What about them? The word of God says any other way is the way of the thief. You want truth? Jesus is truth.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

That narrows the way, doesn't it? But, that is good, it is very good. Now you don't have to be confused, you know the way.

Prov 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Jesus said, salvation is of the Jews.

John 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Salvation came first to the Jews, through the promised Messiah. He was promised first to the Jews. When most rejected him, he opened up eternal life to all people who would receive. The invitation is very broad. The saving is wide and free, but few enter in to it.

John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

The way is narrow but salvation is broad. Do you think you are unworthy? Jesus has made you worthy. All who enter in the door, are cleansed of guilt and shame and all sins. Repent, turn from the broad way that leads to death. Forsake the many ways of the thief. Enter in through the gate that is Jesus.

False prophets

Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

These false ones, appear as sheep, as Christians. They call themselves Christians, prophets of God. Beware of these false ones, for they are satan's workers. How shall you know them? By their words and by their fruit. Do they love God's word? Or do they hear and receive from a spirit guide? Are they opposed to the Church? Do they follow a new way?

Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Mat 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

What kind of fruit? The best fruit is a soul saved, yet these make disciples of themselves, leading astray the weak in faith.

The scribes and Pharisees in Jesus' day followed the traditions of men, instead of God's word. They were rebuked by Jesus.

Mat 23:13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
Mat 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
Mat 23:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Mat 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

A liar cannot be trusted, if asked to speak truth, they cannot. Their fruit is bad. Why listen to a lying spirit? Our spirit can know if another is of God. Does he have the fruit of the Spirit?

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Most false prophets preach love, but not that Jesus is God the Son. Love must be in truth, or it is not love, it is deceit and guile, deceitful cunning to capture you off guard. The end is destruction.

John 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Rev 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

False prophets will be judged by God. Speak truth, God's word and follow his Bible.

False Workers

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

False workers, work for their own gain, fleecing the flock. They serve their own interests, sometimes in the name of the Lord, even doing miracles. If self becomes a big thing, beware, God does not share his glory. Do they follow his will as found in the Bible?

Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

They were not of the Lord. It matters not what great things one does for the Lord, if you have not gone through the door of the sheep, you are not his. All sheep must follow the shepherd. If you follow a different voice, you are not the Lord's sheep.

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Apparently these were false sheep, because Jesus holds onto his own.

2 Cor 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

We know that we are God's children, by the spirit within us.

Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Rom 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;...

Luke 10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

House upon a rock

Mat 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

We have been learning about false prophets and false workers. Jesus is the true way. Learning and doing what is in his word, the Bible, is as building on the rock, a solid foundation.

Mat 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

We are the house. When the storms come, with the floods and the winds of adversity, we shall stand, because we have built on the everlasting rock, our Lord Jesus.

Mat 7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
Mat 7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Some hear the word, but do not do what it says, they are blown away by the winds of adversity.

Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Eph 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Astonished at His doctrine

Mat 7:28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
Mat 7:29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Jesus had concluded his lengthy sermon on the mount, yet people were not bored, this was fresh manna from heaven. He spoke with authority and through the Holy Ghost. Second hand preaching or teaching another's ideas had no comparison with the authority of Jesus. Jesus is the Living Word of God. God's word in the flesh.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
Jesus, eternally God the Son, put aside his glory and became as a Spirit filled man, he ministered through the Holy Ghost, our example as a spirit filled human. If he did something, it is possible for us to do as he did, because he used what is available to us.

John 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
John 3:35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

It is the Spirit in us that makes us alive and gives us our connection to the mind of Christ. We do not speak apart from God's revealed word.

John 6:64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.

First, we must believe. God will increase our faith if we ask him. If we push away from him, he will allow what we choose, perhaps never returning to him. No, we want all that God has for us.

John 6:65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
John 6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
John 6:67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
John 6:69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

Peter was given the revelation that Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah and Son of the living God. Jesus had authority and the wisdom of God. His words were truth and life eternal to the hearer. Jesus spoke the most important words of life;

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
