Revelation 16

Rivers of Blood

Rev 16:1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

The voice of God ordering the angels to pour out the vials of wrath on the earth.

Rev 16:2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

Those who had the mark of the beast received the wrath of God. The first vial brought forth noisome (evil) grievous sores or boils. The old testament was a type of future realities. Egypt received God's judgment of boils too.

Exo 9:10 And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast.
Exo 9:11 And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.

Rev 16:3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man; and every living soul died in the sea.

Other translations say that every living creature in the sea died. The sea became as a man's blood, destroying all life.

Rev 16:4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.

In Egypt, the Nile River turned to blood as God poured out His wrath with Moses interceding.

Exo 7:17 Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
Exo 7:18 And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall loathe to drink of the water of the river.

The angel poured out the third vial and all the rivers and fountains of the world became blood.

Rev 16:5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.
Rev 16:6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

Blood for blood, as when Abel's blood cried out for vengence from the ground.

Gen 4:10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
Gen 4:11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;

Luke 11:51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.

Rev 16:7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

Perhaps the voice of Jesus and the cross? For he died without sins at the hands of sinners. He died for you and me and all the world. The time was running out, it is the very last days, no water to drink, grievious sores and more to come. If we think we have it bad, if we are in Christ Jesus we are most blessed. Those who do not want Jesus must face God's wrath.

Unrepentant

Rev 16:8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

The angel of fire.

Rev 14:18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.

Rev 16:9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

Too much light, too much heat and still no repentance. In spite of the suffering. They had no part with God. Those of God glorify him; they would not. They had not the mind of Christ, but the mind of the devil.

Rom 15:5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
Rom 15:6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Rev 16:10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,

Physical darkness came to the beast and his kingdom, no light at all, giving them a feeling of what it meant to be in darkness, a taste of what was coming. They reflected on their condition and gnawed their tongues for pain.

Mat 8:12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

People who cut themselves know what this means. The pain inside is so great that they inflict pain outwardly to help remove the feelings of anguish. This behavior is not of God, let God take this from you, if this is your way of dealing with hurts. The beast and his princes will have anguish, fear, pain without relief.

Rev 16:11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

They did not seek God but they blasphemed him, calling him evil names, accusing him for the mess they were in because of their rebellion. They still would not repent. They could have repented but they would not. There are two kinds of repentance, being sorry for being caught, with sins punishment and a repentance unto salvation by faith in Jesus Christ. They had no repentance of any kind.

Watch and keep the garments

Rev 16:12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

The dried river would be easily crossed by the nations and a roadway for invading armies from the East. In time they would come against God and His Messiah.

Psa 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
Psa 2:3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

Rev 16:13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
Rev 16:14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

Demons, like frogs come out of the mouth of Satan, the false prophet and the antichrist. Were they expelled? No, they came out as lies, slimy creeping things, lying wonders and evil deeds. They will inhabit the kings of the world, principalities and powers; It is a demonic controlled people who would come against God's anointed. We are the people of God, speaking truth. The Spirit in us goes out like a dove, bringing peace. Our strength is in the coming King, the Lord Jesus Christ and the almighty God and Father.

Rev 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

What are these garments that we are to watch and keep?

White raiment, the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

The armour of light

Rom 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Clothed with humility

1 Pet 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

The Garment of praise

Isa 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

They see your shame? Those who come against Christ will also come against you with accusations and see you as naked and unarmed, so put on Christ, your righteousness. The last garment we shall put on is our glorified bodies when we are gathered together with Jesus in the air.

Clothed in our glorified body

2 Cor 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2 Cor 5:2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

Notice that our new glorified body is not made from the corrupt earthly body, but from God in heaven.

2 Cor 5:3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
2 Cor 5:4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

Wear the garments that God has provided you, through Jesus Christ.

The seventh vial poured

Rev 16:16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

The invading nations from the East will be gathered together at the valley called Armageddon.

Rev 16:17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

God spoke that this is the final vial judgment as the vial was poured into the air, the domain of the prince of the power of the air.

Eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Rev 16:18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

Fearful noises, angels voices, thunders and lightnings; a great earthquake, all would be shaken, so great was it.

Heb 12:25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
Heb 12:26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

Now is the day of salvation. Turn to Jesus before these things happen upon the children of disobedience.

Rev 16:19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. Rev 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

Spiritual Babylon, representing the evil wealthy nation controlled by satan.

Rev 16:20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

Because of the great shaking of the earth, islands and mountains were leveled. Reminding us of another judgment, the great flood that covered the mountains and islands.

Gen 7:19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.

No matter how great man thinks he is, God is greater and is able to bring all down. We should humble ourselves in fear of the almighty God.

Psa 95:3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.
Psa 95:4 In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also.
Psa 95:5 The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.
Psa 95:6 O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.
Psa 95:7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,

Rev 16:21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

Great hail stones fell weighing a talent, which is over one hundred pounds each: and men continued to blaspheme God. If they blaspheme God in this life, they will do so in the next life. It is obvious why there is a separation between heaven and hell. What more could be done to get the people to bow before God?
