The Fifth Trumpet
Rev 9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
The star that fell was a him, a spiritual creation, an angelic being. He fell to the earth with the key of the bottomless pit, abussos, the abyss.
Luke 8:30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.
Luke 8:31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. (abussos)
Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
The owner of the key is the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus gave the key to a star, an angelic being.
Rev 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Was the key given to a good angel or to satan, as in Vs 11? One thing we know is that God gave the permission and God would allow this to happen in His will.
Rev 9:2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
Perhaps the smell of burning sulfur, as rotten eggs, fire and brimstone arising from the bottomless pit. This was a real physical happening, from a spiritual place of darkness, maybe in the center of the earth. The sun and air were darkened by the smoke, perhaps reminiscent of the burning oil wells in Kuwait in the Gulf War. This was not that time, for worse things were coming.
Rev 9:3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
Rev 9:4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
Rev 9:5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.
Hell is a place of torment, here the demons that were locked in hell are loosed upon the earth. They looked like grasshoppers, these were used in judgment, but were not to harm trees or grass. They had stinging tails. like scorpions, to be used upon the people on earth. God commanded that none of those who were sealed on the forehead by God would be hurt. God's wrath does not abide upon those who are saved, His own beloved. For a period of time of five months, the number of grace, the people were tormented without relief. Let me warn those who preach that God is love and that he loves everyone as His children, that this is error. To be under God's love and protection we must receive his Son, Jesus Christ. He saves us from sins punishment. God is also judge of sins and punisher.
Rev 9:6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
The torment was so great that men desired to die, but they could not die. This is a picture of hell, where torment continues without end. Those who seek to kill themselves, because of tormented minds on earth, shall find everlasting torment in hell, unless they are in Christ Jesus. Hell is not being taught in "user friendly" churches. But, it is real and must be taught along with the gospel message, that Jesus gave his life blood for your sins and has risen from the dead. In repenting of sins and receiving Jesus as savior from sins punishment, we are saved and made the spiritual children of God.
Rev 9:7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
Rev 9:8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.
Rev 9:9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.
Rev 9:10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
John describes the creatures in terms that were familiar to him, be sure these were not ordinary creatures. They had the shape of horses with armor, faces like men, perhaps representing men that they had at one time inhabited. They wore crowns, perhaps representing demonic principalities, hair as women, perhaps representing the Jezebel spirit of intimidation, as with Elijah.
1 Ki 19:2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
1 Ki 19:3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
1 Ki 19:4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
And teeth as lions, representing the adversary, who is as a roaring lion.
1 Pet 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
They had tails as scorpions, with stings and they had power to hurt men for five months. These were to torment the unsaved, the followers of the antichrist. A child of God was not touched by these.
1 Cor 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
1 Cor 15:56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
1 Cor 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Breastplates as iron and wings sounding like horses and chariots running. This sounds as if the were indestructible and the noise alone would strike fear into hearts. Appearing as living creatures of substance but being spirits, that can only be destroyed by God.
Demonic powers in our lives now?
Eph 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Rev 9:11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
A ruling king came from the bottomless pit. I do not think this was satan, for he is not yet cast into the bottomless pit. This must have been a high ranking angel named Abaddon; in the Hebrew, "Destruction" and Apollyon; in the Greek "Destroyer".
Rev 9:12 One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.
Would these torments lead people to call on the name of Jesus? Or was this to show the hardness of their hearts? To be sure, this was a just punishment in God's perfect plan.
The Sixth Trumpet
Rev 9:13 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,
The golden altar was the altar of incense where the prayers of the saints were heard. The horns were where the blood was applied.
Rev 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
Rev 6:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
Rev 9:14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.
Rev 9:15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.
The four angels were given authority to kill one third of mankind.
Rev 9:16 And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
Rev 9:17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
Rev 9:18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
Rev 9:19 For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
These were actual demonic creatures, 200 million in number, who killed over a billion people. There was demonic torment followed by death, would those left alive repent?
Rev 9:20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
No repentance, they still worshipped idols of things made by hand.
Rev 9:21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
No change of heart. Has there been wide scale repentance since 911? Or the hurricanes? I see no evidence, God still is not wanted in the public life by most. Signs and wonders do not change hearts. They need to hear the gospel and be touched by God.
