Romans 6

Servants of Righteousness

Dead to Sin

Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
Rom 6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

We need to think about this statement, yes God will forgive any sin when we receive Jesus in faith. But, do we continue to sin? A lady in internet chat last night said, God will forgive anything, we are only human. I have had 20 live in husbands.
If you are forgiven for one sin, do you continue to sin? Better check your heart.

2 Cor 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

1 Cor 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
1 Cor 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Phil 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Phil 3:11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

It is settled ,Christ died for sin, we die with him, and as he rose to newness of life, we receive a new life in his Holy Spirit. We are no longer the old sin person, if you are the same, you probably have not been made new. We are a new person in Christ Jesus, do you believe?

Freed from sin

Rom 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

The old man is that self inherited from Adam, which is by nature sinful and rebellious to God; this aspect of our person was crucified with Christ

In place of the old man, God has given the believer a new man; a self which is willingly obedient and pleasing to God; this is the new man created and raised with Christ.

Rom 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

If we are dead to sin, where does sin come from in our bodies? Is it not from old habits and thoughts? Do not let Satan bring up the past, nor cause you to be tempted. We also must keep separate from the ways of the world.

It is our choice, to put off sin or to walk in sin. We are dead in Christ, but the flesh awakens each day. We must walk in the Spirit and do the things that God approves of. Think of the good that we could do if we truly served the Lord each day. Flesh, vanity, pride, comfort and ease, submit to the Spirit of God. Live following the Lord who loves us and cares for us. Sin be gone, grace covers us, his blood shed to make us free. Let us live in this freedom while there is still freedom to do so.

Rom 6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
Rom 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

God calls us, in participation with Him, to do actively day by day with the flesh just what He has already done with the old man - crucify it, make it dead to sin (Galatians 5:24)

Rom 6:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

Acts 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

1 Pet 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1 Pet 1:4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
1 Pet 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Our Old man is dead, yet satan comes to the flesh and the mind to destroy us by reminders of past sins and current failings. The old man is dead, we do not listen to the liar, satan. We live in Christ, a new life in the Spirit. Our food is the word of God, our inheritance is everlasting. We must walk in the new life by faith in the one who has made us alive. The just shall live by faith. We are freed from sin.

Alive and Free

Rom 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We are reckoned or accounted to have died in the old nature, but made alive unto God through the work of Jesus, our Lord.

Rom 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

The Christian is the only one set free from sin. He has a choice, "let not sin therefore reign in your mortal bodies." Walk in the new person you are through the Holy Spirit.

Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Speak the word of life with your lips. Use your hands to work as unto the Lord. Step forward with the gospel of peace taking it where no one has heard it before. Our whole being should be used for the Lord's work and to his glory.
Be careful what you see and hear, you belong to the Lord.

Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

We are no longer bound by the law, but are free by grace and grace comes from righteousness, the righteousness of Christ Jesus in and through us.

Rom 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Thank you LORD God that we are free, truly free from the law of sin and death. We are free in the new creation after our saviour Jesus Christ. LORD make us instruments of your righteousness, sowing the seed of the word and harvesting souls for your kingdom. May all of our self be used to honor you, in Jesus name, amen

Shall We Sin?

Rom 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

We can be servants of sin? Yes, it is your choice. Before you had no choice, in Christ Jesus you may serve him, or sin. Warning...Sin still leads to death of the body.

If Jesus died to free you from sin, choose the way of grace. Honor him with your life so that others will not make fun of you and mock Jesus, because you live as a sinner. Obey God unto a life that shows righteousness, the righteousness of the one who lives in you.

Rom 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

Without the doctrine of God's word, we do not know what we are or how we should live in this sinful world. Without the word of truth we walk as blind people.

Prov 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Lack of knowledge of God's promises causes us to not see, without his light we stumble in darkness.

Psa 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Rom 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
Rom 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

Truly repent, change directions. Do not continue in sin expecting grace to cover you. If you do this, you do not get it yet. We are saved, made clean, no longer slaves of sin. We are to yield our members servants to righteousness and good works, so that we will be obedient children of God. What happens to disobedient children? They are corrected. Do you want to be corrected by God? Or do you want to love him and serve him? He wants you to return his love and live as a child of goodness.

Righteousness by Faith

Rom 6:20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

What is righteousness, is it our doing, must we work for God's favor? No, it is the gift of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Righteousness is that gracious gift of God to men whereby all who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ are brought into right relationship with God. This righteousness is unattainable by obedience to any law, or by any merit of man's own, or any other condition than that of faith in Christ. The man who trusts in Christ becomes 'the righteousness of God in Him,Because Abraham accepted the Word of God, making it his own by that act of the mind and spirit which is called faith, and, submitting himself to its control, therefore God accepted him as one who fulfilled the whole of His requirements, Righteousness is by Faith in the atonement of Jesus. We are At One With Christ Jesus.

Before we came to Jesus we were servants of sin, we tried to be good, or to pay for our sins by works or sufferings, but it could not be done. The only way to righteousness and eternal life is by faith in Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God who died in our place and rose again from the grave on the third day. God counts your faith in Jesus for righteousness.

Rom 6:21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. The wages of sin are death.

Rom 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

John 8:36 If the Son (of God) therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Yes, true freedom is from God. The holy fruit of freedom is the fruit of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Gal 5:22,23)And being adopted children of God, we inherit eternal life...awesome!

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Sin is living a life without God, serving satan whether aware of this or not, and the end is death. The gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord, and this received by faith in him. There is no better choice then to choose Jesus.

Righteous Father God, you have chosen us as adopted children, and we responded by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. May we live as righteous children before a crooked and perverse world. Our righteousness is of your Son, not our own. By faith we receive salvation from sin, and by faith we receive your Holy Spirit of truth so that we may follow you. thank you, I ask that others may be free of satan's bondage through your Spirit and your word. Amen
