Salvation

Can you lose your salvation?

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Salvation is by receiving Jesus, even believing on his name, it is the work of God. Not by our wishing it, but by his coming to us, repentance, conviction and then salvation.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Whosoever believes in him continuously, shall be saved. Faith is required. Unfortunately many fall away for a time because they did not learn of their salvation. How do we keep our faith?

Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

He keeps us, even if we fail him. Hopefully we will not stay away for long, for there is no happiness apart from our walk with Jesus.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Faith in Jesus brings God's grace to us. We do not earn salvation by works, nor do we lose salvation if we sin.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Our sins committed after salvation will be forgiven if we confess them.

Mark 6:12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

Jesus taught that we must repent, turn from sin and turn to God, leaving our sins behind. Our way of life is to be to bring others to Jesus and to glorify our Father in heaven.

2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

We are new spirit creations, our old ways pass away and we walk in newness of life. It is our new nature in His Spirit. We are to put off the deeds of the flesh.

Eph 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Eph 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Eph 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Eph 4:25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

We must learn the things of God, for we are in his family and we follow His will. This is what a disciple does, he learns from God the way to live his will.

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
John 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
John 10:30 I and my Father are one.

If we belong to Jesus, we will follow him. He keeps us and we know his voice. If we do our own thing in his name without submitting to Jesus, and hearing his voice we are in danger of being thrown out. If we are his he keeps us in his hand.

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The thing to see here is these did not do the Father's will. They were following another spirit in deception. We must know the real Jesus, the eternal Son of God who made the worlds and who is our salvation through faith in his shed blood and his resurrection.

John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

We know him through His Holy Spirit of truth who will testify of him. If you follow a spirit that does not witness Jesus and the Bible, you are following a devil.

Rom 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

The word of faith: Confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead. This results in His righteousness given to you and salvation from Jesus.

1 John 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
1 John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
1 John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

If you have Jesus you have eternal life. All sins are removed and we have his Spirit of truth.

Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

If you don't have his Spirit and are just in a religion, not preferring one from another, then you may switch religions, because although you professed to be with Christ, you had no conviction and salvation. These are as those in Hebrews 6. Like Judas they saw the works of the Holy Ghost, but fell away.

Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
Heb 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Heb 6:9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.

Some take the above verse very literally and will condemn those who fall away, this is not our purpose according to God's word. I fell away for a time and many others have as well, but we came back. His grace still covered us.

Gal 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
Gal 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Love for one another will give us concern for a brother who has fallen away because of sin. We will go to those who have fallen and seek to restore them.

1 John 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
1 John 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

The king James Bible version uses the verb sinneth, which means to sin continually. We are born of God and because of this we will choose not to sin continuously. We may sin, but not as a way of life.

John also speaks of the fact that we still will sin.

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

However, we are not bound to sins. We may escape, we do have power to keep from sinning all the time.

1 Cor 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

If a person continues in an outward sin and will not repent, he is to be put out of our fellowship. We are not to fellowship with darkness. This occurred in the Corinthian church.

1 Cor 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
1 Cor 5:2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
1 Cor 5:3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,
1 Cor 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1 Cor 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

This one was to be delivered over to his way of sin, sin leads to death, which would mean that satan would kill him. But, being once saved by faith, his soul would be saved.

Jesus spoke of continuing with him.

Mat 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Mat 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Mat 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Eternal salvation, yes. To be sure? we do his will and continue with him until the end. If not? Perhaps we never were saved?

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

The name of Jesus, the name with God's power. The name that causes demons to cry out and sinners to hide or to be forgiven of their sins.

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Speak the gospel message, do not be ashamed of your salvation.

Phil 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Phil 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Phil 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
Phil 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Phil 2:16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

Work the righteous works of a saved man or woman for all to see.

1 Th 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
1 Th 5:10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

Amen, by His grace we are saved, through faith.
