The flying roll

Zec 5:1 Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll.
Zec 5:2 And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits.

A flying roll, or scroll,15 ft by 30 ft long. rolls are rolled up messages or books.

Jer 36:2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
Jer 36:3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

Zec 5:3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth (falsely) shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

The.scroll contained the laws or the ten commandments. The ten commandments were written on two stone plaques.

What sins were mentioned?

stealing and a false witness, or liars.

Exo 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.
Exo 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Mal 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
Mal 4:6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

Zec 5:4 I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

Pro 3:33 The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.

What comes into a home? A curse because of these sins. This was God's Mosaic covenant of obedience or curses; the judgement of God. The curse continues until repentance comes.

Deu 27:26 Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

The woman in a basket

Zec 5:5 Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.
Zec 5:6 And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth.

An ephah is a basket. In volume it is 1.2 bushels. A basket for measuring grain, it was the largest unit of dry measure for selling and buying. It was basket full of sins.

Zec 5:7 And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah.
Zec 5:8 And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.

A lead lid with a woman sitting in the basket. The woman represented Israel who had filled up the ephod with the fullness of her sins. A wicked woman who was a thief and a liar, was the idolater Jezebel. The ephod and the weight represented commerce. Israel in Babylon had the spirit of Babylon; godless materialism.

1Ki 21:7 And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

Mat 23:31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
Mat 23:32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

Mic 6:10 Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable?
Mic 6:11 Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?
Mic 6:12 For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.
Mic 6:13 Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins.

Zec 5:9 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.

A stork is an unclean bird, but the wings are large. This is the only mention of women with wings in the Bible, and yet most art depicts angels as women with wings.

Lev 11:13 And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,
Lev 11:19 And the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.

Looking up the phrase "two women" as it first occurs in the Bible it says that they were harlots.

1Ki 3:16 Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.

Looking up "wings of the wind" in the Bible, I found a reference to angels, cherubs.

2Sa 22:11 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.

Combining these two verses, I see a possibility of the two women with wings like a stork, as referring to unclean, harlot like angels removing the woman in the basket from Jerusalem to Babylon.

Zec 5:10 Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah?
Zec 5:11 And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.

Gen 10:8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.
Gen 10:9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.
Gen 10:10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

Jer 29:4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;
Jer 29:5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

Rev 18:7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Rev 18:10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

Gen 19:15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
Gen 19:26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

Luk 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

The two women with wind in their wings flew back to Babylon, it was set on it's own base or pedestal. This represents spiritual idolatry. The twin towers were symbols of materialism. The woman was like Lot's wife, they preferred the city with its materialism and vices. These women with wings represented those from Israel who preferred to live in Babylon. They were not angels, but if they were they were not good. This is the only place in the Bible that describes women with wings. Most angel art shows a woman with wings, but these may have been bad angels, angels of Babylon where the prince of darkness resides.

Dan 10:20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.
Dan 10:21 But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.

Princes or principalities of certain lands. The prince of Persia is Satan or a high satanic angel. Michael is the LORD's arch angel and the protector of Israel. The prince of Grecia had not yet come on the scene, but later Alexander the Great would conquer most of the world. There are principalities behind the powers. I want to be with the people of God's covenant promises under God's protection. I am going up to be with Jesus and not flown in a basket to Babylon.

Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
