Review - Scream 3

I Scream You Scream We All Scream for Scream 3!

[Special thanks to Mike for the title! :o)]

Holy baloney, where did this movie come from? I remember well being completely enthralled by Scream 2 when it came out, reading everything in any small way related to the flick. Hell, I still have a notebook with Scream 2 articles in it. It's one of the scariest things I've ever found in my closet, let me tell you.

Maybe I was so Dogma-obsessed that Scream 3 just wasn't a big deal to me. Or maybe the fact that I'm not as into horror movies as I used to be had something to do with it. But whatever it was, Scream 3 just kinda snuck up on me. I didn't know it was being made until I read about it in Entertainment Weekly, and even after that I promptly forgot.

Now, don't confuse knowing it was being made with knowing it existed. I knew that Scream 3 would exist. Kevin Williamson, writer of the first two installments (but not this last one- apparently he was too busy), always said it was a trilogy. He sold the outlines for the second two when he sold the first, as any good Scream-ite knows. But when the commericals started popping up everywhere, it took me by surprise.

But hey, suprises are good. The entire horror genre is built on the element of surprise, after all. (Well, the good ones are, anyway.)

Scream 3 wasn't scary, per se, but it is still a must-see in my book. It fills in the gaps in the Scream mythology and wraps everything up in a tight little package. I mean, I'm not saying it wasn't scary, it just didn't freak me out the same way the first two did. But I still loved the flick, so no big deal.

I've heard of people who absolutely despise the Scream movies, and hey, that's cool. But there are also the people like me who love them. There are billions of Scream sites out there (and after this flick, I'm thinking of building one...). So hey, if you're a Scream-ite, this movie is essential. If not, you probably won't get it. But hey, either way, it's nice to see some big name stars get their throats slashed, one in particular.

Grade - B+
