If my people, which are called by my name,
shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek
my face, and turn from their wicked ways;
then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive
their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chro 7:14

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF PRAYER?

Prayer is an act of humble worship. During
this humble worship, we seek God's
will with all our heart. Prayer must
consist of us confessing our sins.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful
and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

For I will declare mine iniquity;
I will be sorry for my sin.
Psalm 38:18

Prayer is asking our Father for guidance
and waiting patiently for his direction.

..then said the priest, "Let us draw
near hither unto God."
1 Samuel 14:36

Prayer is an expression of our intimate relationship
with God who has his own love and
resources available to us.

And in the morning, rising up a great while before
day, He went out, and departed into
a solitary place, and there prayed.
Mark 1:35

When we pray, we must praise our Mighty Father.

I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart;
I will shew forth all thy marvelous works.
I will be be glad and rejoice in thee:
I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.
Psalm 9:1-2

During this month, my church had a week of
revival and our pastor focused on prayer;
coming from 2 Chro 7:14. I would like to
share with you, my fellow saints,
because I was truly blessed by my pastor's,
N. Bagsby, sermons. The following are the notes
I took and the outline my pastor provided.
As you read the following, let the
Holy Spirit guide you to the understanding of
God's word. GOD BLESS YOU!

If my people, which are called by
my name, shall humble themselves, ...

HUMILITY - The Attitude of Prayer:

Acknowledge God's Position

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every
branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away:
and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it,
that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are
clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
Abide in me, and I in you, as the branch cannot
bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the
vine; no more can ye except ye abide in me. I am
the vine, ye are the branches: he that abideth in me
and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit:
for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me,
he is cast forth as a branch, and is
withered; and men gather them, and cast them into
the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and
my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and
it shall be done unto you.
John 15:1-7

Appreciate God's Purpose

Trust in Lord with all thine heart; and lean
not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways
acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.
Prov 37:5-6

Accept God's Parameters

Be ye therefore, perfect, even as your Father
which is in heaven is perfect.
Matt 5:48

This is the attitude which says God is
in charge because He know what is best.

Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this
little child, the same is greatest
in the kingdom of heaven.
Matt 18:4

...and pray,

PRAYER - The Act of Prayer:

Apply God's Principles

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew
thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
Jer 33:3

Activate God's Plan

Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall
give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy
way unto the Lord; trust also in Him and He
shall bring it to pass.
Psalm 37:4-5

Anticipate God's Promises

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall
find: knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Matt 7:7

It is important THAT we pray

And He spake a parable unto them to this end,
that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.
Luke 18:1

Be careful for nothing, but in every thing by prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests
be made known unto God. And the peace of God,
which passeth all understanding, shall keep your
hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Phil 4:6-7

But it is just as important HOW we pray

...and seek my face,

SEEK GOD'S FACE - The Aim of Prayer:

Abide in God's Presence

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 91:1

Align with God's Purpose

Verily, Verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of
wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth
alone; but if it die, it bringeth forth much
fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it;
and he that hateth his life in this world shall
keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve,
me let him follow me; and where I am, there
shall also my servant be: if any man serve me,
him will my Father honor. Now is my soul troubled;
and what shall I say? Father, save me from
this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

Acquire God's Perfecting

Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon
us, that we should be called the sons of God; therefore
the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth
not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when
he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see
him as he is. And every man that hath this hope
in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
1 John 3:1-3

This means to develop and maintain a right relationship
with God. We must be ready to RECEIVE
instructions, not give them.

...and turn from their wicked ways;

TURN FROM OUR WICKED WAYS -
The Accompaniment of Prayer:

Affirm God's Purity

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God
forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the
law: for I had not known lust, except the law
had said, Thou shalt not covet.
Rom 7:7

(Please look up Rom 7:14-25)

Allow God's Purging

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock; if any
man hear my voice, and open the door, I will
come in to him, and will sup with him, and
he with me.
Rev 3:20

Assume God's Personality

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ
Jesus: Who being in the form of God thought it not
robbery to be equal with God: But made himself
of no reputation, and took upon him the form of
a servant, and was made in the likeness
of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he
humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the
death of the cross. Wherefore, God also hath highly
exalted him, and given him a name which is above every
name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
of things in heaven, and things in earth, and
things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Phil 2:5-11

This means to LIVE a repentant lifestyle. It is
not enough to say, "God knows my heart."

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your
sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing
shall come from the presence of the Lord;
Acts 3:19

Prayer opens the door to SPIRITUAL AWAKENING. This
is a SOVEREIGN ACT of God in response to the
FERVENT PRAYERS of his people. In order for
SPIRITUAL AWAKENING to occur, the ELEMENTS
OF PRAYER must be observed. If a revival
is to take place in our congregations and in our
community, there must be no HINDERANCES!

no SIN in our HEARTS

If i regard iniquity in my heart,
the Lord will not hear me.
Psalm 66:18

We must ABIDE in CHRIST

If ye abide in me, and my words abide
in you, ye shall ask what ye will,
and it shall be done unto you.
John 15:7

We need PRAYER and FASTING

And when he was come into the house, his
disciples asked him privately, why could
not we cast him out? And he said
unto them, This kind can come forth by
nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
Mark 9:28-29

...then will I hear..

HE WILL HEAR - The Advantage of Prayer

Accesses God's Power

If ye abide in me, and my words abide
in you, ye shall ask what ye will,
and it shall be done unto you.
John 15:7

Arouses God's People

And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang
praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that
the foundations of the prison where shaken: and immediately
all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were
loosed. And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his
sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword,
and would have killed himself, supposing that
the prisoners had been fled. But Paul cried with a
loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we
are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in,
and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
and brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must
I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord
Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Prayer is the LAUNCH PAD of Spiritual Power.
Spiritual life never exceeds:

the QUALITY of Prayer

Confess your faults on to another, and pray one
for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual
fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
James 5:16

or the QUANITY of Prayer

And he spake a parable unto them to
this end, that men ought always
pray, and not to faint:
Luke 18:1

THE LAUNCH PAD OF SPIRITUAL POWER IS
BUILT WITH PRAYER, USING THE
WORD OF GOD AS A BLUEPRINT.
