AN UPDATE!
1/20/01
I'm Alive
Hehe, it's been a while. There are a bunch of things to say (that I'm sure you have already heard months earlier on other sites), so bare with me.
Gold Edition
is looking like it will be an excellent set that will reset the game back to an older, more involved style of play. I have personally seen quite a few pieces of art that will be in gold and it looks excellent. You can see a list of cards for Gold Edition here.
The L5R Sale
Because L5R isn't one of the top 3 names in CCGs, WotC/Hasbro has decided on selling L5R. An announcement of a buyer is expected Monday or Tuesday. Because of this, I expect Gold Edition to be pushed back about a month.
Test of the Emerald Champion
I recently played in the most recent GST (Global Storyline Tournament), and came home with a first place finish, a third place finish, some packs, 370 Koku, and a L5R T-Shirt. Paneki for Emerald Champion!
Spirit Wars
is out, and pretty cool. My only real complaint is that Pheonix got a new Stronghold. I really don't think that a clan that won virtually every tournament in recent history should be given more cards. There are a couple of cool cards for Scorpion in Spirit Wars, such as Birth of the Anvil, Shiryo no Shoju, and The Emperor's Underhand (The last two I am still looking for after about two boxes).

I'm back...
I'm back and happy to inform all of you that I did quite well at GenCon this year. I placed somewhere in the top 32 out of like 500 players total. Click Here to read my full and boring tournament report. I have also posted that deck in the Deck Archive.

Off to GenCon
My plane is leaving early Wednesday morning for Milwaukee. If you see me and notice me, I would love it if one of you said "Hi" there. I am a skinny white guy with glasses, long hair, and a tucked in Red, Green or Blue Celtic T-Shirt.
To tell you the truth, I will be happy if any clan other than Pheonix or Fox win GenCon.
Return of Mashita
Due to an overwhelming support by the L5R community (including myself), Shosuro Mashita has chosen to stick to L5R despite his loss. He has updated his web page, Stage of Shadow, and is in need of card donations. Please visit his websight if you would be willing to donate some extra cards to a player in need (or to just get a laugh from his "Man of the Week".
To me this just shows that despite the occasional bad apple, L5R is a very caring and personal game. It makes me proud to be part of such a awesome world.
Links
The Links section is in the process of being re-vamped. Should be finished next update (After GenCon). If you would be interested in exchanging links with me please E-Mail Me!
Decks
I posted the Exploding Dragon deck in the Deck Archive for players to Build for Playtesting. I figure it won't do too much harm having another place where flavour of the month decks are posted. Players who are going to build these decks for a tournament already have access to the decklists anyways. And it can only help less wanking players to know their enemy.
Islands of the Mantis
I was surfing the L5R web today and I found another excellent Mantis web page. Thanks go out to Yoritomo Kurikaeshi for linking to this page without asking for a link in return! Click here to visit his page.
Card and Tactical Articles Requested
Anyone who would be interested in writing (a) Strategy Article(s) for Shiro no Soshi are encouraged to do so! As long as it is L5R related, it will almost definately be posted.

Change in Banner:
Thanks to Shosuro Mashita for the really cool looking banner for my websight. He made this for me like 6 monthes ago and I have gotten around to putting it up.
New Crab Deck:
I put up a new Crab Deck in the Deck Archive. It's actually a pretty good deck.
LOOK, A BIG UPDATE!
The Good News, The Bad News
8/2/2000
GenCon 2000:
Well, I am happy to say that I will indead be going
to GenCon (and no, I am not just finding this out :-) ). If you see a
White Guy with Glasses, long hair, and a tucked in shirt, hanging around
suspicious looking Scorpion Samurai it most likely will be me.
Farewell to Shosuro Mashita:
In some bad news, Shosuro Mashita
had his collection of cards nearing 5000 dollars stollen from him and
has left the game. This saddens me, my Clan, and the entire L5R
community. This also appears to be a rather disheartening trend
recently. I think Yoritomo Kensai hit the nail on the head when he
posted the following on his websight, Kyuden Yoritomo.
"I'd like to take a moment here to make a statement about an alarming trend I've witnessed lately. It seems just about every tournament report I read as of late, the person writing the report mentions that they had some of their cards stolen, in some cases, even entire decks or boxes of cards. This is absolute BS in my not-so-humble opinion. If something doesn't belong to you, keep your damn hands off of it unless the person who owns it gives you permission. And then give it back when you're done. If you want the cards, either buy or trade for them like everyone else. You may think it's just a few cards, or that it's no big deal, but the fact remains that it is stealing. And stealing is wrong, no matter how you try to justify it. I'll be at GenCon this year, and make no mistake, I'll be keeping an eye on my stuff, but I would rather not see the convention turn into wholesale card thievery. The whole thing cheapens the experience for everyone involved, and in some cases, leads to people quitting the game if the loss is grievous enough. I urge everyone who's going to GenCon this year to keep an eye on your stuff, and report any suspicious activity to convention security or to any other appropriate parties. And if you plan on stealing someone else's shit, think twice about it. We don't need your kind. That is all. Questions, comments, concerns, flames? E-mail me at swordmaster@home.com See you at GenCon. "
Soul of the Empire:
The new set for L5R is out (and has been out
for a little while now) and it's cool. Despite not having very many
good Scorpion cards in it (with the possible exception of Lessons of Honor,
Bayushi Goshiu (ex3), Kolat Courtiers, and Spy Network) it's still a very good set
storywise. I really like how they reprinted the most recent Stronghold
for each clan with a story like in Time of the Void.
Kosaten Shiro:
In case you have not heard (which I doubt), there
was a fairly recent ruling stating that any sort of
paying less gold is considered cost reduction. That means that Fantastic
gardens costs *6* gold under Kosaten Shiro instead of the presumed *4*
gold cost.
Fate of this Websight:
The main reason that this sight was not updated
for so long was that for a while I had taken a break from the game.
Now I'm back and I should be updating this site about two to three times a
week. I am really in to the game now, and there is enough interest to
upkeep the site. Just givin' you all a heads up on what's going on with
Shiro no Soshi.
Deck Archive:
Now that I have become a lot more of a seasoned
player, you might expect to see some good decks in the deck
archive. I will be making a point to post the Flavor of the Month for
all of you to make and playtest against. After I win GenCon (yeah
right) I will post the best Scorpion deck I have ever played up here.
Until then, the deck is very hush hush :-).

sent us to exile, destroyed our homes, and
taken our name, dare speak to me of courage?
I tell you this: it requires more courage to
suffer than to die" -Bayushi Eiyo
