Under mysterious circumstance, Owain in 1429 married Henry V's widow, Catherine, the daughter of King Charles VI of France. A fervent supporter of the House of Lancaster, he was executed after the battle of Mortimer's Cross in 1461. His son, Edmund, earl of Richmond, married Margaret Beaufort, a descendant of John of Gaunt, duke of Lancaster. After the death of Henry VI and his son in 1471, Margaret was the main Lancastrian claimant to the English throne. Edmund died in 1458, and his and Margaret's son Henry came under the care of Edmund's brother, Jasper, earl of Pembroke. During the most of the rule of the Yorkist dynasty, Henry and Jasper were exiles in Brittany and France. They landed on the coast of Wales in 1485. At the battle of Bosworth, Richard III was killed and Henry Tudor became King Henry VII.
