as painful as falling in love

it's supposed to be simple now
love is supposed to conquer all
or so the stories say
i bet they're all romantic stories written after the fall

people trying to make life better than it is
people trying to find something good
people lying to themselves
so they'll bother doing what they should

making an effort for something beautiful
even when it's fleeting and comes to an end
even when lives are sometimes leave
far too soon - an agonizing trend

there aren't supposed to be so many obstacles
you fall in love and from then on it's a smooth ride
or so they'd have you believe
well, they were wrong, so wrong, or they just blatantly lied

but still we try
we push, we shove
we put so much damn energy
in something as painful as falling in love
