TUESDAY, JUNE 5, 1990

Santa Barbara - LAWRENCE LESLIE MacKINLAY,86,
of this California city, formerly of Sherbrooke,
Guysborough County, died May 6 in Santa Barbara.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Capt. JOHN H. and MAUDE(Smith)MacKINLAY.

Upon completing his public school education in Sherbrooke
he moved to the United States becoming a U.S. citizen in 1928.
An assisstant engineer in the U.S. Merchant Marines,
he served through the Second World War on various U.S. Navy ships.
He rose to the rank of Commander during the Korean Conflict
while in charge of shipbuilding in Tacoma, Wash.
He worked for the city of Los Angeles later moving to Santa Barbara
where he became chairman of the Water Board. He was a member of
the University Club of Santa Barbara Navy League, Naval Institute Proceeding
and Masonic Lodge of Santa Barbara and Nova Scotia.

He is survived by three sisters, RUBY(Mrs.Wendall Turner),
Halifax; CLAIRE(Mrs. Earl Cook),HELEN, both of Sherbrooke;
two brothers, SMITH, Penticton, B.C.; REGINALD, Sherbrooke.
He was predeceased by a sister, EILEEN LITTLE; a brother, ELLIS.

His remains have been cremated.
Masonic service was to be held at 1:30 pm. today
in Veinotte's Funeral Home, Sherbrooke. Interment will be
in St. James Anglican Cemetery, Sherbrooke.
