The build threshold is therefore a very underexploited feature of the v3 game. It seems obvious that it might prove entertaining to tamper with this number, but to my knowledge, such an experiment has only been tried to any significant degree on two occasions.
The first was sheer accident, a complete blunder in the early days of Stargate, when most of the series on that server were accidentally set to a build threshold of zero. This was eventually "corrected", but many players felt that some of those mal-configured games were actually more fun than the corrected versions.
The second experiment was The Cuckoo's Nest, a design by kalana which marked the first time that a series was intentionally set to zero. The result was an interesting series, and started raising questions about what would happen if the setting were unusually high instead of unusually low.
I suggested to Andy that a series with a setting of 100 might prove interesting, and he suggested that I go ahead and design one. Since I wanted to make the game an especially challenging one, I threw in some added quirks regarding another underexploited dimension of the game, restricted tech. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I hope you like the result.
