Mystery #2

Mrs. Calisto put her feet up on the stool and pulled up the newspaper one cold winter night. Her husband and her had just started an Inn, out of the house that her Aunt had left her. So far they had five guests arrving on Friday, and tommorow was Friday. They were scared about having complete strangers close to them, but then again, they needed the money.
"Do you really think we can do this?" she asked her husband.
"Yes. Now lets stop our worrying and get to bed, it's, 11:43, too late for you!" he responded, chuckling.
"Can we go over the list one more time?" she asked.
Yawning, Mr. Calisto responded,"Take my notebook, and use that. With that, he got up to leave.
"Fine. Just, goodnight sweetie" Mrs. Calisto said as she kissed her husband on the cheek.

"Rise and shine Honey!" Mr. Calisto boomed at 6:45 in the morning.
"Does it have to be quite so early that you must wake me up? In England, there is no such need!" she said sleepily
"Melony! The guests are arriving, silly! Lets check one more time and make some breakfast. We've got lots to do today!"
"Oh dear." Mrs. Calisto said as she hopped out of bed and trodded toward the kitchen.
Before they could even finish eating breakfast, the doorbell rang, and Melody had a little fit.
Mr. Calisto got up immediatly and went to the door. "I hope we're ready...," Mrs. Calisto whispered.
Melody and Kevin showed Miss Tenant, as she appeared to be, up to her room and before they got down the doorbell rang again and at the door were three more guests.
"All at once, eh?" Kevin said, excited. Once again he showed them to their rooms, and privately Melody greeted the last guest.
"Hello," Melody stammered,"Welcome to the..." What was the place called? Oh well, one mistake won't matter,"The Inn. We will provide um, food, warmth, bedding, and bathing here. I will show you to your room, you must be Dr. Hecma," she finished.
"Yes, indeed," he said very quietly. Melody wasn't feeling safe with him, he was too, well, quiet. When he was in his room she met Kevin, downstairs smiling.
"That...was...freaky!" she said.
"Come on! That was great fun! Cheer up!"

The next day, things got even weirder. Miss Tenant was always wondering off, and leaving Melody to find her. Mr. Hectam was never seen, only if you stayed up really late or got up really early. Miss Norser was very suspective of something, like we were hiding something. Mr. Manning was the only good one, doing good and talking about resonable subjects. Mrs. Peterson was always overing to help and then messing things up.
One day, when Melody was cooking breakfast, she saw Miss Tenant slip through the door leading down to the basement. Suspicious, Melody followed her to see what she was doing. Miss Tenant had a phone, and was talking softly. "Now, I have her here, you can come any time. Just be careful around breakfast." When the phone clicked Melody waited too long, standing there in astonishment. She finally left when Miss Tenant slipped through the other door leading to the billards room.
Who was "her"? Who was Miss Tenant? And what was up with her?
The doorbell rang and broke her thoughts. At the door was a Police Officer, telling her that he needed to watch the house because two strangers had come with a notepad a strange man dropped and one of the addresses was their boarding house, and the other was the name of a recent murder site.
Now she knew for sure, there was a murderer in her hotel. Was it Miss Tenant? But Mr. Hectum could be planning something, a sudden attack, or maybe Mr. Mannings kindness is just a coverup, and same with Mrs. Perterson, and Miss Norser.....

Then she heard a scream. It was Mrs. Norse, she could tell by the high pitched voice. At that very moment, she could hear some whistling upstairs. Mrs. Norse had been in the Library when the scream came. Melody rushed to the Library and saw almost everyone else there.
"Calm down! I know we have a murderer in this house now for sure...anyways, I have a plan in which to find out who the real murderer is. Mr. Hecma, what were you doing" the Police Officer asked.
"I was playing piano. Very softly." he said.
The police man continued asking everyone what they were doing. Finally he told everyone to do the exact oppisites of their position during the murder, and Melody was at the piano.
"But what is the point of this?" Kevin asked the officer.
"Do not doubt me. Now go. Mrs. Calisto, count to fifty and when you finish start playing a tune. Ready..." the officer left the room. She began counting.
"...fourty eight...fourty nine...fifty.." Just as he told her she started playing. After finishing two lines of the tune, she heard something behind her, but saw nothing. So she played again...and then there really was someone..

"Good Mrs. Calistio." It was only the officer though. With a gun in his hand.
"I thought officers didn't carry guns," Melody remarked.
"Of course they don't. That's because I'm not an officer. Do you remember the ?" he said.
She stood there in shock. "Yes you do. You were a teacher, you didnt help a poor student, who turned to the only person he could trust, his teacher. And you ignored him!" he continued.
"No!" she shouted. "It wasn't me! It was my sister! She had a disease and didn't get the letter until after he died, and she felt terrible! She died though..." Melody said.
"Oh well. Your sister, my brother, same thing." Jim raised the gun higher. Comfort him, Melody thought.
"But Jim, what's done is done. Don't make it worse." Melody said pleadingly. Just then from behind Jim she heard Mr. Mannings voice(or she thought she did) speak.
"Down, Mrs. Calisto," he said. It was Mr. Manning. Melody crouched down and looked at Mr. Manning, he had a gun in his hand pointed at Jim. Just then all the guests came from their places and watched as two policeman appeared. Jim didn't refuse as they handcuffed him.
"Georgie won't be mad will he?" Jim inquired.
"No." the officer said. "Crazy man.." he said to Mr. Hecta.
When Melody saw Kevin they were in eachothers arms imediatly. "I was so frightened!" were the kind of remarks they said to eachother in a baffled conversation.
"We best go." Mr. Hecma said to the others. "And I, must go with them." he added. He left them and went with the police officers before kissing Melody's hand and telling her his check was on the table.

So there really was a happy ending.

Awww....how sweet. If you sort of liked this and want to read the whole thing, be sure to look at Agatha Cristies book, Three Blind Mice, where there is a more detailed version. I'm sorry if this was messed up, I tried my best to summarize that book in the best way I could! Please forgive me. Thanks for reading my mystery!
