February 27, 2000 - Sunday
There's something evil about a Sunday morning that starts at 6:30 am. At least, I
think so! I got up, showered and walked to the bus station. I didn't actually plan
to walk, I wanted to take a taxi, but none passed me, so I couldn't.
I got to the bus station and on the way discovered where the fitness center is. I
wish I'd seen it before. The bus ride was fine. I slept all the way to Yamagata.
I looked out the window a couple of times, but all I could see was snow, so I decided
to sleep.
In Yamagata I walked to the school where the meeting was being held. I stopped off
at a Mr. Donuts for breakfast. It was a nice treat.
The meeting went okay. It wasn't as great as I had hoped, but it wasn't as bad as
I feared either. Some people were more motivated than others, which is pretty normal
I guess.
After the meeting we went our merry ways. I grabbed a couple of sandwiches and caught
the bus back to Tsuruoka. I slept about half of the way and then woke up and started
looking out of the window. It was scary. There was so much snow. There was so
much snow that it was quite light outside. There were high mounds of the white stuff
on each side of the road. The piles/drifts were much higher than the bus. I've
never really seen snow that high before.
We made it back to Tsuruoka safely, and I walked over to the office to dump my books.
Then I decided to go to Shimi's restaurant for a bit of sushi. It was great. Her
husband has been practicing his English. We were having an interesting conversation....sort of! Between his English and my broken Japanese, we got on okay. Shimi had
to interpret a couple of times, but we did okay!
After I finished I went to the convenience store to pay my local telephone bill and
then I took a taxi home. I spent the rest of the evening watching TV and finally
getting around to answering e-mail. Now I'm going to post this and get some sleep.
