January 6, 2000 - Thursday

Today was a mixed bag of a day. I wasn't too busy which was nice. I called my teachers today and then made a few last minute preparations.

I had some good news today. I got a card from one of my students who just had a baby. She had a baby girl and the picture I saw was very cute!

My child class went well today. He seemed to enjoy himself. We reviewed the five colours that I taught him before and then I introduced five more. We played "run to....", stepping stones, and then a kind of slam game where he turned over a card and then had to hit the colour on a game board. The finale was to make a collage out of coloured paper. We didn't get to finish it, but he enjoyed it.

My other classes were okay. The lesson that I spent about 2 hours on yesterday went well, until the finale. Then it kind of died. It's a shame, cause I think it should have worked well. I'm debating using the lesson for another class to see if it was the lesson or me!

One of my students came by the school to give me a souvenir of her vacation, so I asked her if it meant that she couldn't come to my class. She had forgotten that there was a class today. It was funny.

After school tonight I called a couple of my students to make sure they knew about my holiday next week. They were really surprised to hear someone talking to them on the phone in English. (Or maybe they were surprised to hear my incredibly bad Japanese on the phone. Tee hee!) I got out of the school early tonight, before 10:00pm. That was nice, so I went to the grocery store on the way home for a bit of salad.

And that's been my day. It was uneventful, but good. It's nice to be easing back into work instead of having 7 lessons in one day.

Also the Tohoku Journal came out today. It was interesting seeing something that I wrote in it for a change. I think it was a good issue.
