X-Men
I've been looking forward to seeing this movie all summer. I really loved watching
the X-Men on cartoons on Saturday morning. My favourite characters were Beast, Jubilee
and of course Wolverine. Well, of those characters, only Wolverine made it into
Bryan Singer's X-Men.
Wolverine, well played by newcomer Hugh Jackman is introduced in a bar in Northern
Alberta. Well, this reviewer comes from Central Alberta and I've never seen or heard
of any bars like that one! Wolverine's power is the ability to heal himself, and
somewhere along the way he has also been given Adamantium coating on his bones.
He meets up with Rogue (Anna Paquin) whose power is the ability to absorb the memories
and power of the people she touches. They are set upon by Sabretooth and rescued
by Storm (Halle Berry) and Cyclops (James Marsden) and taken to the Xavier School
for the Gifted. There they are introduced to Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and other
X-Men, including Dr. Jean Grey (Famke Janssen).
The basic story is that Magneto (Ian McKellan) is leading the bad mutants against
the good mutants. The good mutants are trying to protect the regular humans and want
to live peacefully with them. Magneto wants to take over the planet and it is up
to the X-Men to stop him.
There's a lot of action in this film, and I'm not going to ruin it by telling you
about any of it! It's fun, if you are interested in this film go see it. It's not
a serious film and it doesn't pretend to be either. The acting is pretty good, the
story is well paced and the effects are cool.
If you are interested in this film, check it out. On the Stella Starstruck scale
I give it **** 1/2 stars out of five. It's a fun time at the movies.
