Don't worry, we're not making the rules e-mail exclusive. Here are some of the basics:
The field is 30 yards long and 15.3 yards wide (the same dimensions as a professional basketball court). There are also 5-yard end zones on each end of the field, which can rounded off to save space.
Teams are six to a side at one time. Teams can only make two substitutions on any play.
The offense must have at least three players on the line of scrimmage, and the defense can't have more players on the line of scrimmage than the offense has.
The offense can have all players except the quarterback and center in motion at any time, in any direction, as long as there are at least three players on the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped. Any or all of the defensive players can be in motion, but they cannot go in motion toward or away from the line of scrimmage.
All offensive players except the center are pass-eligible. The center, however, is allowed to carry the ball.
Two forward passes are allowed on a single play, but both must be from behind the line of scrimmage.
A team has five downs to get to midfield, then five downs to get to the end zone.
Touchdowns are worth six points. PATs are not kicked. There are run and pass coversion worth one, two, or three points from one, five, and fifteen yards away from the end zone.
Field goals can be punted for two points, or placekicked for four points.
There are two types of safetys. If the ball is batted out of the back of the defense's end zone by the offense, it is worth two points, but if an offensive player is tackled in the defense's end zone, it is worth five points.
Overtime is two minutes long, and the full amount is played.
