Here are some of the areas where you can help Friends of Arabian Horses Rescue:

There are several horse auctions in the local Southern California area which we try to attend on a regular basis. If you would like to attend with us, please let us know.

There are several feedlot and horse dealer locations in the local Southern California location where we work to place horses from. If you would be interested in helping us to evaluate the horses at these places (and have adequate equine experience), please let us know.

The Special Guardian and Special Mentor Volunteer Programs were created for our most motivated volunteers, those who want to do more than the "average" volunteer.

This program allows the volunteer to become a Special Guardian of one of our horses or the Special Mentor to one of our Foster homes.

 

As a Special Guardian your responsibilities will include:

* Promoting *your horse* on the internet (keeping it's page updated, etc.)

* Sending updates to *your horse's* Sponsor

* Regularly taking updated photographs of *your horse*

* Setting and making arrangements for veterinarian and farrier appointments for *your horse* with either the veterinarian's office or the farrier, and the foster home, if applicable

* Reviewing any incoming applications for the possible adoption of *your horse*

* Writing any recommendations for the approval or denial of a potential adopter of *your horse*

* Forwarding any applications to the Adoption Coordinator and President of FAHR for the approval or denial of the application to adopt *your horse*

* Preliminarily checking references on a potential adopter of *your horse* and consulting with the Adoption Coordinator

* Contacting the pre-approved applicants and arranging an appointment with the applicant to meet *your horse's* foster caretaker(s), the Adoption Coordinator and the President of FAHR

* Organizing, performing and supervising paperwork with regard to post-adoption follow-up visits for *your horse*

Please note that volunteering as a Special Guardian will most likely be time consuming. Depending on the horse and the situation you can expect to spend anywhere from 2 to 8 hours per week performing your Special Guardian duties. We insist, please only apply to become a Special Guardian if you are reliable, committed to details and dedicated to the position. This is a huge responsibility! Remember, too, we are always available if you have any questions or concerns.

As a Special Mentor your responsibilities will include:

* Working with *your* foster home to insure the horse(s) they have are supplied with everything they are entitled to

* Coordinating between *your* foster home and the Sponsor(s) of any horse(s) they have to see that monies and supplies are properly distributed

* Coordinating between any potential adopters, the Adoption Coordinator and the Special Guardian(s) of any horses in the process of being adopted from *your* foster home

* Assisting *your* foster home in anything rescue-related

Please note that volunteering as a Special Mentor will most likely be time consuming. Depending on the horse and the situation you can expect to spend anywhere from 2 to 8 hours per week performing your Special Mentor duties. We insist, please only apply to become a Special Mentor if you are reliable, committed to details and dedicated to the position. This is a huge responsibility! Remember, too, we are always available if you have any questions or concerns.
