Out of every crisis comes the choice to be reborn, To reconceive ourselves as individuals, To choose the kind of change that will help us to grown and fulfill ourselves more completely. -Nena O'Neill At the onset one must acknowledge those we typically think of when we hear the word homeless. It usually conjures images of people walking the streets, sleeping on benches or in doorways, these are the most visible homeless people. But there is another side of homelessness that is not so readily recognizable in the community. These homeless people can be friends you went to school with, friends of your children, patrons of your stores and restaurants, family members. They are abused women and children in your neighborhoods who until today were unable or afraid to leave their situation, they are mothers trying to rear children alone, they are women unable to repair unsafe conditions in their homes, they are recovering alcoholics and narcotics abusers struggling with day-to-day sobriety, they are people living with mental illness. They are Members of our community. Take these pauses as a time to reflect, refresh, & recharge And they cease to be perceived as interuptions. -From The Key to Life ~ You live on the street, in doorways, abandoned buildings or other public properties. ~ You live in sub-standard housing which lacks adequate heat, utilities, plumbing or has significant structural damage. ~ You live in a doubled up situation in someone else's home where the condition presents overcrowding or may cause eviction; ~ You have been evicted ~ You are fleeing from domestic violence or abuse; ~ You are currently residing in a group shelter, domestic violence shelter, hotel or motel; ~ You been discharged from a mental health facility, drug or alcohol rehabilitation facility, or from a correctional facility.
