Charmed Satellite Interview with Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano, and Holly Marie Combs.
Alyssa, Holly- Hi!
Shannen-Hi, How are you?
WB59-Good, thank you. For the viewers who haven't picked up on all the great buzz on Charmed, can you tell us about the show?
Holly-It's about three sisters who happen to be witches.
Shannen-That's the quickest that I've ever heard it described. This is so great. They're good witches, and it's about the relationship between them, and how they deal with one another.
Alyssa- I think the great thing about our show is that we definetly deal with a lot. I play Phoebe, who is the youngest sister. She's the rebelious, black sheep of the family, who really wants Prue's acceptance. Shannen plays Prue. Phoebe's very happy to have these powers because she feels like she has purpose in the world now. She was sort of a slacker before. When her powers come to her, she's ecstatic, she loves the idea. Which is very different than the way her sisters sort of accept their powers. They have a hard time dealing wiht it. And Phoebe is like "Yes, I love it!" We are all very different, very separate people who probably wouldn't all be under the same roof if they didn't have to be, but because they have these powers they are bound together.
WB59-Shannen, what's it like to play Prue?
Shannen-She is great to play because she is very different than I am. She's very responsible. She feels the weight of the world on her shoulders and trys to take care of her sisters constantly, and maybe she does it too much, maybe she's a little too nurturing, or maybe she's a little too preachy and overbearing. She needs a let her sisters go and do their own thing because they're mature women who can handle themselves, but it's basically out of love and concern. Yet, she has a lot of issues in her life with her family and with sort of accepting this power that has been sort of given to her at this point...And I think that Prue is a little about who she is and hopefully we'll get to explore that.
WB59-Compare yourself to the charector you play.
Shannen- Oh my god, I'm so nothing like Prue!
Holly- My charector is more like Shannen...Her charector is more like own personality.
Shannen- See, Piper panics and has anxiety attacks, is neurotic, and that's me. And my charector is really sort of responsible, she thinks she knows everything, thinks she's this great perfectionist and likes to lecture people...that would be Holly.
Holly- Yeah! Wait a minute the lecture part was not part of the deal.
Alyssa-No, I'm not the black sheep or rebelious or anything.
Shannen- Except that you are like her (Phoebe) in the sense that you are a little wacky.
Alyssa-Hey, I'm wacky!
WB59-What are some of the challenges of filming a show like Charmed?
Holly and Alyssa (together)-GREEN SCREENS!
Holly-Special effects.
Alyssa-Half the time we're acting to nothing.
Holly-And no one.
WB58-There are a lot of action scenes in Charmed. Do you do your own stunts?
HollyOh yeah.
Alyssa-As much as they let us.
Shannen-Because of insurance purposes they love throwing stunt doubles in there.
Holly-I did a screech-out the other day with my car, they forgot my stunt driver...the director screamed...I was as good as a stunt-driver.
ShannenShe's a very good driver.
Holly-Thank you!
WB59-What is it about the show Charmed that made the three of you want to do it?
Shannen-Should we all say it at once guys?
Shannen, Alyssa, and Holly- FUN!!!!!
Alyssa- I think that there is something for everyone that is very specific, and very different, I think because we're three women and we deal with the sister's relationship, that's very accessible to the people.
Holly-We deal with men...
Alyssa-Yeah, we have men issues, you know it's three sisters.
Holly-The guys will be watching, there's the action for the guys, there's teh short skirts for...nevermind. We got something for everyone.
Alyssa-There is a lot of special effects which will definetly appeal to a different audience, so I think that we have something for everyone.
Shannen-All the elements are pretty perfect, you know, Aaron Spelling who is incredibly intelligent, such a brilliant business man, he knows what audiences want, and who's fun to work with. The WB;s a young, great network, the material, the show was great, and the fact that is was the three of us.
Holly-You really wanted to work with me.
Shannen-The fact that it was the three of us was really appealing, you know, I mean we've all become really good friends, and god, it's just a lot of fun.
WB59-Alyssa, you were great on "Who's the Boss". Do you feel like you litteraly grew up on television.
Alyssa-Thank you...It's a little weird because half the time I won't even remember shooting them (episdoes of Who's the Boss), you know, because how much do you remember when you were 11, you know? So it's a little weird of coarse, I was in teleivision in the '80's when it was the worst fashion time ever and I was going through pubertym so I had big hair and pimples and I was akward, so I definetly look at it and go "oh, that poor little pubescent child..."
WB59-What's it like working for the WB network?
Shannen-Well, I think the amazing thing about the WB is that they're well on their way without my help. You have Sarah Michelle Gellar who has done wonders for this network, and you have Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes who are like the two most amazing, adorable actors I've ever seen, and, you know, have good quality shows on, so they're well on their way. Hopefully we can help out a little bit. I definetly like being on the network already because it does remind me of Fox. I have a relationship with
Jaime Kellner already because he was the president of Fox, adn now he's sort of our CEO of WB, and it's kind of nice, it kinda feels like repeating things, but yetm in a better way.
