'Prayer of hope' planned for missing Galt family
Ross Farrow/News-Sentinel staff writer
Friends and relatives of Galt resident Annie Hernandez and her two daughters, missing since Nov. 2, are inviting the community to a special "prayer of hope" at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Galt Boys and Girls Club, 905 Caroline Ave.
Weather permitting, participants will walk with lighted candles on C Street, South Lincoln Way and Chabolla Avenue after the service.
"Our main objective is more community awareness," said family friend Lee Williams of Stockton. "We're asking for help. Somebody's seen something."
Hernandez, 34, and her daughters, Jesika Hernandez, 2, and Korra Meyers, 5, were last seen in the McDonald's Restaurant off Interstate 5 at the Pocket Road exit in South Sacramento.
Galt police detectives had said they have exhausted all leads in trying to locate Hernandez and her children, but Williams said the police have received six leads in the past month. Galt police Lt. Jim Uptegrove said Thursday none of the leads has been successful.
Williams said at least 15 people will attend the prayer of hope, but he's hoping for 500 to show up.
Hernandez's husband, Armando, her mother, Jeanne Peterson of Dixon, and her sister, Denise Gaskins of Sacramento, are among those who plan to attend. Williams along with Kim Wrage and Pamela Ellis from the Clements-based Cyndi Search headquarters are also expected to attend.
Photographs and descriptions of the Hernandez family may be found on the Internet.
A new toll-free hotline for tips has been established. The number is (877) 4-U-ANNIE.
A $15,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the recovery of Hernandez and her daughters. Donations are being accepted for two funds, one for the reward and one to defray expenses in her search, both at Stockman's Bank, 701 C St., Galt.
