Christmas

December Color Focus: Red and Green

Handprint Tree

Use a large piece of white butcher paper for the background of your tree.Paint each child's hands with green paint. Print their handprints onto the butcher paper in the shape of a tree with their handprints facing down. For the bottom of the tree, have about 10 handprints then build a "pyramid"with all the childrens hands. The next row would have 9 handprints ,then 8 handprints on the next row, etc.You end up at the top of the tree with only one handprint and you can then top it with a gold glittered star.

Candy Canes

Cut out a cane shape from white construction paper.Set out a bowl of red strips the same width as the cane and have the children stripe their canes. These look very cute hanging on the handprint tree.

Handprint Reindeers

Cut out a triangle shape to represent the reindeers head and glue on eyes near the long side of the triangle and a red nose onto the sharp end point of the triangle.Next, paint each childs hands with brown paint and have them stamp their handprints up on top of the long end of the triangle near the eyes.

Fruit Loop Tree Garland

Have the children string fruit loop cereal onto a long piece of yarn. Be sure to secure one end with a knot before stringing so that the loops don't fall off the yarn during stringing. The technique that I use is to tie a fruit loop on one end with a knot. That way none of the loops fall off and you don't have to tie a big ugly knot on the end. After children are done stringing, have them hang their garlands onto the Christmas Tree. They love seeing the tree decorated with things that they have made themselves.
