The AVERAGE of a series of quantities of the same kind is given by the equation


Average = Sum of the quantities
                 Number of quantities

Example 1: Find the average of 8, 10, 12, 2
average = (8 + 10 + 12 + 2)/4 = 32/4 = 8


Example 2: Dan lifted 100lbs on Friday, 110lbs on Saturday, and 90lbs on Sunday. Find the average weight Dan lifted for three days.
average = (100 + 110 + 90)/3 = 300/3 = 100lbs
