1. What percent of 50 is 5?
X% of 50 = 5
X/100 of 50 = 5
X = 5 x 100/50
X = 10%
10% of 50 = 5
2. What percent of 9 is 30?
X% of 9 = 30
X/100 of 9 = 30
X = 30 x 100/9
X = 333.3%
333.3% of 9 = 30
3. Price of a candy increased from 80 cents to 1 dollar. Find the percent of increase:
Percent increase = Increase ÷ Original amount (Increase = 100 cents - 80 cents)
Percent increase = (100 - 80)/80
= 20/80 = 0.25 = 25%
Price of candy increased by 25%
Note: Percent decrease = Decrease ÷ Original amount
