If every element of a set B is also an element of set A, then set B is a subset of set A

Let, A = set of students
B = set of girls
C = set of boys

Then B is a subset of A :- B A
also C is a subset of A :- C A
A is a superset of B :- A B
also A is a superset of C :- C A

Example 1: A = {a,e,i,o,u} B = {a,e,i}
The number of element in set B is less than set A.
set B is PROPER SUBSET of set A

Example 2: A = {a,e,i,o,u} B = {a,e,i,o,u}
All the elements in set B is also in set A.
set B is IMPROPER SUBSET of set A
Every set is a subset of itself.

Null set is a subset of every set.

Example 3: Write subsets of A, where A = {e,g,h}
The subsets are: { }, {e}, {g}, {h}, {e,g}, {g,h}, {e,h}, {e,g,h}
There sre 8 subsets.

Example 4: Write subsets of B, where B = {5,6}
The subsets are: { }, {4}, {5}, {4,5}
There are 4 subsets
If there are n element in a set A, the total number of subsets of the set A is 2n
