~Las Vegas Journal~
Hey Fans!
Well, we just got back from Las Vegas. It was a long flight and I'm
happy to be back home and getting ready for this weekend's race
down in Atlanta. When you have a race out west it makes your week
a little shorter because of the travel time, so things are really busy
(as usual) here at the shop to make sure everything is ready for the
next race.
We had an all right run in Las Vegas. We had a new car out there
and ran some really awesome laps in practice before first-round
qualifying. So I felt pretty good before we made our qualifying run and
thought we had a good chance of starting in the Top 25. I guess I
messed up just a little in qualifying, so I was disappointed about
ending up in the 31st spot. We stood on our time though for
second-round qualifying because it looked like no one could run any
faster, which proved to be the case, and ended up starting the race in
the 31st position.
We were much better in the race and I think even a couple times we
one of the five fastest cars on the track. The car was a little tight off
in the beginning of the race but it was helping me at that point. On
our first stop of the race, we made an air pressure adjustment and it
really helped the car. On our second stop, we made the same
adjustment and it might have been a little too much that time. But
these are the things we are learning right now. It's like Chris [Hussey]
said after the race on Saturday, "You got to crawl before you walk
and walk before you run." That's definitely what this team is working
towards right now. We are taking what we learn at one race and
applying it the next time we race. Right now it seems to be working
for us because we moved up ten positions in every finish so far this
season. In Daytona we were 37th, Rockingham 27th, and now in Las
Vegas we were 17th. Hey, if that formula continues to work that
means we will end up with a top 10 in Atlanta and I'd be very happy
with that.
Speaking of Atlanta, I'm really
looking forward to going there. We
had a good run there last year and
great testing session there last year
also. It's definitely one of the fastest
tracks we run on and for me being a
racecar driver that is what it is all
about-going fast. We started 20th
there last year and ended up
finishing 34th because I wrecked
while trying to make a pass on the
car in front of me. We did run in the
top 10 during part of the race so I feel
confident that we can go down and
repeat that performance but this time
I plan on staying in the top 10.
Hey, if you haven't heard yet there
was a really cool announcement from
my sponsor, Sprint, this past week
in Las Vegas about my first attempt
to run a Winston Cup race at Texas.
Sprint will be sponsoring Pole Days
at Texas and providing free tickets for
some fans to attend both of the
qualifying sessions for the Busch
Series race and the Winston Cup
race. Hopefully this means the
stands will be packed with fans when
I go out and make my first qualifying
run for a Winston Cup race. This is a really big weekend for my
family and me and we really appreciate the fact that Sprint is behind
us one hundred percent and everything they are doing to make the
weekend even more special.
Well, as always thanks for your support and encouragement, it really
means everything to the team and me. I hope everyone has a good
week and "keep your eyes peeled" on the race this weekend in
Atlanta. (I think that is how the saying goes that y'all use, right?). I'll
talk to everyone next week before we visit the "Lady in Black".
God Bless,
Adam
