Carole's Impressions
I comfort myself with the memory of the audience standing up for him in the Skate America Gala, after his incredible performance of "Gladiator", and the memory of the children who called out, "we love you, Alexei", at various times. So, whatever happens, I know he has the love of the audience--even when he is competing against their national favorites. That makes my chest a little less tight. I wish we could all be there, holding up his banner. Who took the printout messages for Canada? I can't remember; I think my brain has melted and slithered down into my socks.....maybe with time, and oatmeal, I'll improve. I miss you all; I can still see your face in my mind, Brenda, with those kind, intelligent eyes. Going to Alexei's skating competitions really spoils a person, doesn't it? I can still picture Laurie at her keyboard, and with her notepad--it's amazing how she can take the notes so quickly, and even in the dark (the Gala). Kim spent so much time patiently re-stocking and developing film at Target; I wish you all could see more of her pictures; she gets shots a professional would envy. No matter what the situation or conditions, she always looks chic. Amazing. I think she could come out of a WW I trench looking good, and with some great photos to show. Kelly--I hope you still have that mischievous smile on your face, you multilingual pom pom abuser, you, LOL. Levana--thanks so much for the love bear. What a great idea that was! (it was a teddy bear that opened up with a space for signatures inside, and we all signed it, and it was thrown to Alexei after his Free Skate). We shopped for a card to attach to it to say "open the bear", LOL, and got nutty with the Halloween stuff in the Target. Couldn't find horns for the bear, though. Talk about wild and crazy guys....I think we defined that, LOLOLOLOLOLOL. Thanks for the OJ at a crucial time, Kim. You may have saved my cookies from crumbling. I have a pom pom, a t-shirt, a tote, and a program. And I have my memories. Thanks. Alexei was wonderfully patient with the many children who came up to him for autographs, etc., at SA. He seems to have a special rapport with children. I think he'll make a great coach, some day. The kids are obviously crazy about him. I'm picturing him in my mind, years from now, grinning, with a "gimme cap" on, patiently teaching his pupils; I like the picture. I like the picture very much.
