Kim's Trip and Photos!

LOL It's about time!

Well, I should mention that Hadas was such a trooper about the banner. Especially since arena personnel had already come over and told her not to hold up a sign! (Why, I have no idea). So she was nervous about holding up the banner for Alexei when I wanted her to.

We basically only held up a sign after the person skated, if she had a sign for them. (We didn't want to get harassed by arena people). But when Alexei took the ice to warm up, I insisted that we hold up the banner so he could see it!

Then before Alexei skated, we had to hold it up again. I think Hadas was worried we were going to get in trouble, and was reluctant to hold it up so much. So I was basically throwing a hissy fit and screaming, "Hurry! Hold it up NOW! Don't let your side drop or it doesn't make any sense!" LOL I don't know how she put up with me!

Anyway, of course we both held up it after he skated, and when he went over to the other side of the ice to see someone ELSE from this board instead of us ;) ... well, I was worried that he wouldn't get to us! He then skated off towards the kiss and cry. I told Hadas that we would have to yell LOUD because he was on the other side.

Unfortunately, the "1, 2, 3" count I'd been doing so well, I had to do faster since he was almost off the ice. I did it so quickly that I didn't give Hadas a chance to get ready, so when I screamed "ALEXEI!!!!", I was screaming alone! And since the arena was pretty quiet at this point, everyone heard me, and laughed!

Including Alexei! He actually looked a bit startled, and he kind of whipped his head around to see who did that! He was practically stepping off the ice at that point, but when he saw us with the banner, he halted his exit and skated right over to us!

Hadas and I both had flowers to give to him, and we both got a lovely hug. And of course those wonderful "thank you's" and a "thank you very much" in that adorable accent! One funny thing is that Liz (from the MKF) took a picture of me hugging Alexei, and it came out rather... odd. Well, it isn't quite apparent just what we are doing in that picture! I think Alexei got partially lost in my hair! Anyway, I will have to figure out how to get that one posted over here.

I know I'm late in posting but I agree with those who said Alexei did NOT step out of his triple axel. Also, I made Hadas help me count the ice rolls and we counted 4, but in talking to Julie later I realized I may have counted him getting onto the ice in the first place as a roll. lol But anyway I thought there were four, so we'll see on Saturday, I guess. (Isn't that when it's telecast?)

Kim, It was great to meet you, even if I feared you were going to keep Alexei all to yourself! LOL He DID smile at you, I'm sure of it.

I posted about my own personal hug in the thread Hadas posted about being converted into an Alexei fan at this event. Yes, she tried to resist, silly girl, but a few seconds of personal attention from Alexei after his skate, and she was a goner. It couldn't be helped. LOL Anyway, you guys have GOT to see the picture that Liz (from the MKF) took of us with him. I am trying to get it posted here so hopefully that will happen soon.

I know, I know! I feel awful. The worst thing is that I mistakenly posted that I was picking up the pictures on Saturday, when actually that was when I was planning to drop them off. But since I still had nine pictures left on that film, it was too tempting to just click past them, when I knew I would have a great place to use the rest of the film the very next day.

So I took the camera with me and finished it there. (If it turns out, I will have a nice picture of Alexei hugging Hadas!) Anyway, this film now has THREE events on it: the Sears Open, Improv Ice, and the Hershey's! I don't take a lot of pictures, do I? LOL Most skating fans I know take several ROLLS of pictures at a single event; it takes me several events to get through a single roll! Oh well.

At any rate, I should have the pictures back by Friday or Saturday at the latest. Then I will get copies made and mail yours to you. Sorry about the wait. I had intended to be much faster about all of this, and have just failed miserably. The bad thing about using one film for three events is that if it doesn't turn out, well... AAAAH! I don't think that we have anything to worry about, though.

Eventually I will probably get around to posting some sort of full report on the Hershey's, but considering how long it took me to finish Improv, who knows when that will happen? I will try to do better this time, although half the week has already gone by. Anyway, it was AWESOME to see you there, Julie and Kim! (And Hadas, since you post here now!) BTW, thanks for letting me hold the other banner! I think Alexei may have indeed been pleasantly surprised. :)
