Wolf Habitat
Where they Live:
Forest
~ They also live in packs that can get up to 12 members (in some cases 15 members have been recorded in one pack). There is a Male and Feamle that are called the Alpha Pair. They control the pack.
In places where it snows (example Alaska)
Sometimes Mountains
Deseart (Normally Mexican wolves)
Territory
A packs territory can extend from 30 square miles to 800 square miles.
The alpha male or female will "mark" tree's, boulders, brush, the ground, etc. To let other lone wolves and packs know where their territory boundries are.
A wolf pack will fight for good hunting ground.
A good way to figure a wolf packs territory range, would be to, count each wolf pack member, or wolf within the territory, then multiply the number by 10 square miles. For ex:
6 wolves x 10 square miles = 60 square miles of territory.
THE WOLFS DEN
2 mated pairs, normally the female, will dig a den if the pair are expecting pups. The female will most likely pick a place with great brush, trees, and alot of shelter from preditors. Because like the pups, the mother must stay within the den, for at least 3 weeks or more careing for the new borns. Dens can reach the depth of 3 feet or more.
