Jonathan M. Fey, Director of Bands, was Lodi born but raised in the Bay Area where he graduated from College Park High School in 1987. When first introduced to his high school band director, Jon told him that he would someday be a band director himself; and so begins this story.
After graduating from high school, Mr. Fey attended the local Junior College. While attending school, he worked as the assistant band director at his alma mater. There, he taught award winning jazz bands, marching bands, drum majors, and color guards. After receiving his Associate of Arts degree in 1989, he then attended California State University at Hayward for his work in music. He was actively involved in the recording studio, jazz band, orchestra, jazz choir, concert choir, and wind ensemble. He also conducted world premier works by the University's composition students. While at the University, Mr. Fey studied trombone with Daniel Livesay and conducting with Timothy Smith, he was also an active member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity where he served as Song Director and Treasurer. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1993, Mr. Fey attended San Jose State University where he completed his credential course work and student teaching at Independence High School with Director Vernon Miyata, and at Monte Vista High School with Director John Galli. Prior to assuming the position at Hoover High School, Mr. Fey also held the position of Band Director at Arlington High School and Gilroy High School. He is currently working on his Master's in Educational Technology at Fresno State University.
As a former member of the Concord Blue Devils (B-Corps: '85; A-Corps: '86, '88, '89, & '90), Mr. Fey shares in 3 Championship Brass titles and 1 World Championship title ('86). He placed 4th in the solo baritone competition and was a member of the 1st place Mixed Ensemble in '90. Mr. Fey also served as the low brass specialist for the B-Corps from 1990 - 1992, and then again in 1994.
Mr. Fey has been active in music service organizations all over the state of California including the California Band Directors Association, Fresno Madera County Music Educators Association, Western Scholastic Marching Band Conference where he served as Vice-President, and California Music Educators Association. As an active clinician and adjudicator, Mr. Fey has served the California Color Guard Circuit, Western Scholastic Marching Band Conference, San Joaquin Valley Color Guard and Percussion Review, the Modesto Color Guard Circuit, and the Winter Guard Association of Southern California.
Mr. Fey
maintains an active schedule as a full-time husband, teacher, student, adjudicator,
conductor, and mentor. He holds active memberships in the CTA-FTA, CBDA, MENC-CMEA,
WSMBC, IAJE, and PTA.
