Plan Your Defensible Space

1. Determine the amount of defensible space necessary.
2. Evaluate the area around your home in terms of being defensible.
3. Develop a plan for correcting problems identified in Step 2.
4. Secure necessary permits and have trees marked for removal by a qualified forester (if applicable).
5. Implement the plan developed in Step 3.
6. Dispose of all vegetative material removed.
7. Maintain your defensible space on a routine basis.
