A Lodestar Drive home lost part of its roof and attic when its woodstove chimney caught fire early Saturday. No one was injured.
A fire ignited on the outside of the chimney at about 12:45 a.m. at the two-story wooden house at 11810 Lodestar Drive.
It is unknown how the blaze began, said Capt. Jim Turner of Consolidated Fire Protection District Station 88.
The homeowner, whose name was not available Sunday, was at home when the fire began and reported it to authorities. The flames spread onto the roof and into the attic, but crews got the fire under control before it spread into the second-story rooms, Turner said. "We got a great save on (the house)," Turner said. If firefighters had reached the house five minutes later, it's a possibility the second story would have been completely burned, Turner said.
Turner said there was approximately $45,000 in damage to the chimney, roof and attic.
Nevada County Consolidated Fire Protection District Station 85, Grass Valley Fire Department and Higgins Area Fire Protection District also helped put out the fire.
