A Grass Valley man died Monday, hours after falling from a tree he was cutting on Meadowbrook Court in Alta Sierra.
Terry Hurst, who was about 40 years old, suffered head injuries when he fell about 20 feet off an oak tree, according to Brian Gerving, an engineer with Nevada County Consolidated Fire District.
Hurst and three other men, employees of Timber Pros of Penn Valley, were cutting several trees at the property, Gerving said.
Hurst was still alive when emergency services arrived shortly after the 10 a.m. call for help, Gerving said. Hurst was found on the ground, Gerving said.
He had a climbing harness and a rope.
"Somehow, the rope didn't catch him," Gerving said.
Hurst was flown by Calstar helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he died at 3:29 p.m., according to a hospital spokeswoman.
