NC Street Closed After Worker Hits Gas Line

By Pete Skiba - Thursday, August 31, 2000
Ridge Road was closed near Zion Street in Nevada City for about 40 minutes Wednesday after a contractor ruptured a half-inch gas line, authorities said.
There were no injuries and only the pipe was damaged, said Spencer Garrett, Nevada County Consolidated Fire Protection District engineer.
Fire personnel arrived on the scene at 10675 Kate Vincent Court to ensure gas didn't ignite from a spark and to close the streets, he said.
The gas leak started at about 11:15 a.m. and was pinched off by Pacific Gas and Electric Co. at 12:10 p.m., said Lisa Randle, PG&E spokeswoman.
On the scene for traffic control were the Nevada City Police Department and the Nevada City Fire Department, Garrett said.
Before digging around homes, contractors and residents should call the Underground Service Alert at 800-227-2600, Randle said. The organization should be called at least 48 hours in advance, she said.
"They come out and mark where the PG&E lines, water and TV-cable lines are," Randle said.
