A Grass Valley woman and her two children were injured after she turned into an oncoming car on Highway 49 at Lime Kiln Road on Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The oncoming driver also was hurt, and the collision slowed traffic for nearly two hours, until about 5 p.m.
At 3:10 p.m., Cindy Griffith, 43, of Grass Valley, was driving a 1997 Toyota Corolla northbound on the highway when she turned left in front of a southbound 1992 Ford Tempo driven by Edward Seibel, 68, of Newcastle, CHP Officer George Kirbyson said.
Griffith's 11-year-old daughter suffered two facial cuts and was flown by Calstar helicopter to the UC Davis Medical Center, Kirbyson said. She was listed in good condition.
Griffith, her 8-year-old son and Seibel went by ambulance to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.
Griffith suffered neck and back pain and possibly a fractured left arm and wrist, Kirbyson said. A supervising nurse listed her as stable Monday night.
Seibel also was stable with broken right ribs. The boy suffered stomach abrasions from his seat belt and was treated and released.
Kirbyson said Griffith was attempting to turn left onto Lime Kiln just after a southbound truck pulling a camper passed. She apparently didn't see Seibel's car, which was moving at about 55 mph or slightly slower.
Griffith's car was struck on the right side. Her daughter was in the right-front seat, and her son in the rear-right seat, Kirbyson said. No citations were issued, and the crash remains under investigation.
Sierra Nevada Ambulance and the Nevada County Consolidated Fire Protection District also responded to the crash.
