A weekend burning ban prompted by dry and windy conditions will be lifted today, according to the California Department Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The CDF banned debris burning Friday through Monday, partly because of northerly winds that caused some debris burns to jump out of control.
But some people burned anyway.
"It's not unusual to have a springtime flurry of small fires that don't go too far," said 49er Fire District Battalion Chief Daniel Kopp.
Among the largest get-away blazes was a 10-acre fire Saturday east of Cascade Shores. The fire spread from a burning debris pile.
Consolidated crews responded to a Sunday morning fire in Alta Sierra that burned a quarter-acre. The fire spread from a burn pile that started Saturday.
CDF Capt. Rich Anderson said weather conditions have improved enough to lift the ban today. Starting May 1, anyone who wishes to burn outside city limits will need to obtain a permit.
To learn whether there is a burn ban in effect, call the CDF at 274-7928 or 268-1023.
To obtain a burn permit, contact your local fire station.
