A south Nevada County landowner who left for lunch after starting a burn pile Friday came back to find his mobile home engulfed in flames, according to a local fire district.
Richard Cameron of Suisun City had evicted the mobile home's tenant and was clearing the area around the house at 11310 La Barr Meadows Road, near Dog Bar Road, said Engineer Adam Ross of the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District.
The burn pile flames somehow spread to the house and began consuming it by the time Cameron returned and reported the fire at 2:45 p.m., according to Ross. Crews knocked down the fire within 10 minutes, but the house was already destroyed.
"The lesson is, don't leave your pile unattended," Ross said.
He said the fire destroyed the $20,000 trailer and $5,000 in contents.
The Grass Valley Fire Department also responded to the fire. No injuries were reported.
