An 18-year-old Auburn man suffered moderate injuries Tuesday after his car struck a tree off Highway 49, south of La Barr Meadows Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Rescuers had to cut open Kyle Gubreville's crumpled 1990 Honda Civic before he could be freed. He went by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with cuts and bruises and possibly other injuries, CHP Officer Troy Marks said.
A Sutter Roseville spokeswoman had no information stating that Gubreville had been admitted to the hospital.
The crash occurred about 5:50 a.m., after Gubreville's southbound car missed a right curve near Welsh Lane, crossed the northbound land at 55 to 60 mph and struck the tree, Marks said.
Gubreville was wearing a seat belt, and it was lightly raining, Marks said. The crash's cause remains under investigation.
Nevada County Consolidated and Grass Valley fire crews responded to the crash.
