A scrap over dog feces left two women injured and investigators sniffing for information on who started it, according to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office.
The women, residents of Tall Pines Mobile Home Estates, west of Highway 49 and La Barr Meadows Road, fought Tuesday afternoon.
One woman, 45, left dog feces on the driveway of another woman, a 52-year-old dog owner, suspecting the dog had defecated in her yard, Sgt. Gary Driscoll said.
The dog owner, who is sight-impaired, confronted the younger woman and, upon leaving, made a derogatory, over-the-shoulder remark, Driscoll said.
Words escalated into scratches and pulled hair, and each woman accused the other of starting it, according to Driscoll.
When officers arrived, the younger woman was on top of the dog owner, who suffered head injuries from having her head banged on the ground as the younger woman tried to keep her down, Driscoll said.
A Nevada County Consolidated Fire District crew treated the dog owner at the scene, but her injuries weren't initially considered very serious.
On Wednesday, the dog owner's daughter reported her mother suffered later problems, including memory loss, and went to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
A hospital spokeswoman listed her in fair condition Wednesday night.
Driscoll said no arrests have been made, there are no known witnesses to confirm who instigated the fight, and the case remains under investigation.
