Consolidated Gains Territory
By Doug Mattson
Nevada County Consolidated Fire District will get to annex more than 8,000 acres it has sought for several years.
The annexation will take effect once it has final approval from the state Board of Equalization.
Annexation will require property owners to pay the district $30 a year per improved parcel, or those with buildings, and $15 per unimproved parcel.
The four annexed areas are in the Bragg Avenue area outside Grass Valley; and along Greenhorn and Red Dog roads, Dog Bar Road and Retrac Way, for a total of 8,145 acres. They comprise a combined 720 parcels.
Either 25 percent of parcel owners or 25 percent of registered voters had to protest the annexation by Monday to force a vote. Fifty percent was needed to kill the proposal.
Forty-two property owners and 19 voters protested, clerk Katherine Hudson of the Nevada County Local Agency Formation Commission said Tuesday, well below the required threshold.
Consolidated Chief Tim Fike, who couldn't be reached for comment because he was fighting a fire, had estimated the fees would generate an estimated $18,450 annually.
