Night Fire Causes $250,000 in Damage
By Doug Mattson
An electrical short in a clothes dryer likely sparked a Wednesday night fire that destroyed a south Nevada County man's house, garage and pickup truck, a fire official reported.
The owner reported the fire at 11:41 p.m. from his house at 26184 Table Meadow Road, which is near Combie Road, Higgins Area Fire Capt. Jerry Good said. Good said he didn't have the owner's name, but that he was staying with family in Sacramento.
The dryer was in a garage, and the flames likely accelerated from fumes in the garage created by gas-powered equipment, Good said. A new Chevy Silverado pickup destroyed in the fire was parked outside the garage. The estimated cost of the damage is $250,000.
Higgins' firefighters responded to the fire with crew members from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District.
