Legend of Dragoon

Release date: June 13. This game has been in the making for over 3 years, has had over 100 people working on it, and around 30 minutes of CG animation (FMV sequences).

According to IGN, the game has a new feature that is innovative to the genre. During battle sequences, the makers have added a combo system. But in this game, the combo aren't the ones that are in games like Xenogears or Legend of Legaia. Instead a new combo system called "Additionals" has been added to Legend of Dragoon. It pretty much takes timing to pull off. You see the Additional is another attack performed by pressing a button (I would imagine the "square" button) after you have selected fight from the battle menu.

The Additional works like this: there are two squares on the screen, one being stationary and the other one moving back and forth on top of it. To get the Additional to work you have to tap the button once the squares are lined up, I would imagine they appear to be one at this point. If you push the button too early the square will turn grey and if you push the button too late the square will turn yellow. Either way mistiming it results only your original attack and no Additional. But if you time it right the box will turn white and the "Additional" attack will be performed.

At first it will probably be impossible to do the Additional, but after some practice, I'm sure it will almost be automatic. Throughout the game you can learn more additionals and then string them together to create some wicked combos. Once you get 3 additionals you can do two additionals after your original attack. The game is said to feature the ability to apply 8 additionals.

To prevent the game from turning into a bashing frenzy, the CPU-controlled enemies were given the ability to counterattack. But not to worry you can dodge the attack using the "Additional" combo method, which features a different box (pressing the X button instead). This time you can avoid the attack and retaliate with your own. If you don't you're still hit with the attack and your sent flying back towards the rest of the party! (It sounds pretty funny!)
