Band Info
Phantom Planet was formed by a tangled web of meetings. Jason was introuduced
to Darren through a cousin. Jason, in elementry school, became friends
with Alex. Again, Jason met another member, Jacques. They happened to
cross paths at a guitar shop. Jacques knew Sam from school, thus Jacques
insisted that Sam had to join the band if he did. In a Pizza Hut located
in Westwood, they officially became a band.
The name Phantom Planet is in reference to a 60s science fiction movie.
The band enjoyed the name and they found themselves quite fond of the
theme of the movie too, thus the name Phantom Planet stuck.
The band's first gig was at a 21+ bar while they were at the ages of
14-16. At the time they considered the gig and the whole aura great,
but looking back at the circumstances they have now realized that truly,
it went terribly. Only a matter of time after that, the band was able
to acheive their goal of getting a gig at the Whiskey. Their concerts
were easy to promote then because they were still in high school and
word got passed quickly.
The band's next goal was to acheive a record deal. They were not sure
what that meant and how to go about that, but a cousin of a member was
able to introduce them to Dan Field and from there it is history!
